A holistic education at ISKL extends well beyond classroom learning and includes a comprehensive program of “service learning” opportunities where students are encouraged to get involved and make hands-on, positive changes within local communities.
The annual Kids 4 Kids Party was recently held at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital. ISKL K4K, also known as Kids 4 Kids, is a nonprofit organization where ISKL students volunteer to spend time with cancer children at the Pediatric Cancer Ward in KL Hospital.
ISKL Choral Exchange Music Festival Under the direction of international composer, conductor, scholar and music educator, Dr. Andrea Ramsey, the Robert B. Gaw Theatre at Ampang Campus was serenaded with a fantastic celebration of music and culture on Saturday, January 20, 2018.
Dr. Ramsey, a renowned Choral conductor, and clinician is working with Choral groups in the High School and conducting the Middle School Choral Exchange this weekend in collaboration with students from the International School of Guangzhou. One of her sessions with ISKL faculty and students was entitled: ” FUNdamentals: Basics of Creative Choral Artistry: This session will focus on fundamental elements of the choral experience: tone, breath, rehearsal climate, vowels, vocalism, expression, self-reflection, and personal philosophy. The weekend concert is going to be a fantastic evening of great music!
On Wednesday, September 20, 2017, the Middle and High School Art Departments had the pleasure of hosting Mr. Oscar Olivares, a young painting and illustration artist from Venezuela. Mr. Olivares shared with our students how he was inspired to create art through the events happening in his home country, and how as an artist, he had the choice to pursue hope in his artworks while there might be turmoil around him. Mr. Olivares also spoke to our students about how he pursued his dream of being an artist even though he faced obstacles, and he kept on drawing and creating art – which was very inspiring to our students.
The sheer volume of IB students scoring so high is a testament to ISKL’s program which enjoys the distinction of the longest running IB Diploma program in Malaysia. Since 1991, ISKL has supported more than 1,000 students to achieve the IB Diploma. ISKL is also the first international school, and the only one in Kuala Lumpur, offering Advanced Placement (AP) university preparatory courses. For ISKL students who chose to pursue the full IB Diploma, and for those who wish to take IB and or AP courses as part of their study, the rigor and focus can advance their prospects of acceptance to world class universities.
The 2017 ISKL Senior Award Ceremony recognized students who have demonstrated excellence, dedication, and passion for academics, sports, visual and performing arts, or community service. A true testament to all that ISKL believes in. Well done to all the awards recipients.
ISKL is proud of its graduating class of 2017. Our seniors demonstrated commitment, resilience and passion. They truly embodied ISKL’s motto “Be All You Are” as shown by the wide range of topics they will be reading at university, from economics to medicine, law to media communication, we have no doubt that they will make a positive contribution to the world. Special mention to our two IB scholars, Chua Zi and Lim Jih-Ming, we are so proud of you.
Prep Senior students took a field trip to the High school Grade 10 classes and learnt about how the heart moves oxygen around the body.
It started with the projects to improve the common space for our cleaning ladies and has now morphed into teaching bus monitors ways to enhance their communication with ISKL students through greater proficiency in the English language.
