Dear Parents,
ISKL’s Elementary School is a dynamic learning community dedicated to meeting each child’s needs with care and empathy. In a values-based nurturing environment, our students grow and develop into responsible, ethical, and caring global citizens.
Our standards-based curriculum is designed to empower students to think creatively, reason critically, communicate effectively, collaborate constructively, live ethically, and learn enthusiastically. Using research-based practices and innovative programs such as Design Thinking and Makerspaces, our students experience learning in a way that emphasizes critical skills development and establishes learning habits that will last a lifetime.
Beyond our academic program, our students benefit from a broad range of co-curricular activities that enable them to explore their interests and develop their academic, artistic, and athletic skills. Grade-level performances, learning-sharing events for parents, and cultural celebration days provide wonderful opportunities for students to showcase their learning and benefit from enriching, real-world experiences that enhance their overall development.
We look forward to welcoming your child into our Elementary School community!
Yours in partnership,
Julie Olson

Julie is the Elementary School Principal and has been with ISKL since 2016. She has served as ES Principal and MS Principal in Ghana and the US. Previous to her nineteen years as a Principal, Julie was a school counselor and taught Grade 2 and Grade 3 students. She holds a Masters of School Administration in Educational Leadership, a Masters in School Counseling, and a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Speech Communication.
Our younger learners are guided by The Melawati Way, a code of behavior that encourages students to “Take Care of Yourself, Take Care of Others, and Take Care of This Place.” The Melawati Way is named after our previous Elementary School campus and has helped shape the attitudes and behavior of thousands of students since it was first introduced in 1997.
The Melawati Way provides a framework for ES students and teachers to work together in a thoughtful, caring, and polite environment. We emphasize positive personal character traits like cooperation, courtesy, empathy, integrity, kindness, respect, and responsibility. Our school culture emphasizes a caring and harmonious environment that allows for learning to happen.
