Panthers of ISKL - Elena W.

– The Compassionate Panther

“The best part about being a Red Hat is knowing that we are responsible leaders of the school. Being a Red Hat means I can do so many things, and earning one was like a million wishes bursting into fireworks!”

Meet Elena W. (’31), a Grade 5 student who most recently starred in the ES Musical The Aristocats Kids. Originally from the USA, Elena joined ISKL three years ago and enjoys reading, swimming, and crocheting in her free time.

Here is Elena’s story:

Tell us about yourself.

I joined ISKL in 2021 in Grade 3. Due to the Covid pandemic, my first day of school was conducted virtually.

Can you tell me more about taking part in the Aristocats Kids musical?

Elena in Aristocats Kids

I played Abigail Gabble in the Aristocats Kids. The best part of participating in the musical was that we had so much fun performing and tried our hardest.

The most challenging part was when we had to learn the dances for the first time. We tried our hardest but could have done better in the first few rehearsals. But if you watched the musical, we have nailed every step, note, and line!

Have you always been interested in theatre? Have you been in any other productions before this?

I have only been interested in theatre since joining ISKL. Watching the ES Seussical Kids musical last year amazed me, and I wanted to get onstage and perform. I had never been in a production before this, so doing the musical was new and so much fun.

You’re a Red Hat now. What’s the best part about being a Red Hat?

The best part about being a Red Hat is knowing that we are responsible leaders of the school. Being a Red Hat means I can do so many things, and earning one was like a million wishes bursting into fireworks!

What is your favorite subject, and where is the best place to hang out on campus?

My favorite subject is Literacy because I like to write and read. My favorite place to hang out on campus is the ES cafeteria or the gym when I play sports.

What are your hobbies and interests?

My hobbies and interests are reading, swimming, and crocheting.

Elena with her siblingsDo you take part in any ASAs?

I do Pawsome Craft because I like to craft things, and I am learning magic because I can entertain people like I did with the musical. I also do cheerleading because I like to perform in front of people to make someone’s day cheerful and memorable.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

I want to be someone who helps people, so in that case, I want to be a humanitarian.

If you could have any superpower, what would that be and why?

It would be best to be able to teleport because I have so many good friends in ISKL. Some friends have moved, so teleporting would let me see them so I won’t miss them as much as I do now!

Next semester, you will be in Middle School. Are you looking forward to that? What will you miss most about ES?

I am excited to attend Middle School (MS) because attending MS will make me more responsible; however, I will miss how easy ES is compared to MS.

What does “Know yourself, care for all, and create a better world” mean to you?

It is like the Melawati way: “Care for yourself, care for others, and care for this place.” Connecting to the Melawati way means that I can be anything that is caring.
