On March 2, 2017, Grade 1 students from Melawati went to see the play “Emily Brown and The Thing”. The play was a stage adaptation of the illustrated children’s book of the same name by Cressida Cowell (writer of How To Train Your Dragon) and Neal Layton. After the show, our students were allowed on stage and snapped this photo.

The students had been learning about characters through a series of stories and this was the perfect character study. This year the students have been working on their fluency and expression, and seeing it in action was a thrill for them. The experience and lessons coming out of this unit were perhaps best described by Grade 1 student, Zane Brannan, who stated “The Thing taught us to always tell the truth and to ask for help when needed”. It was a day that we all enjoyed!
