Have you noticed the beautiful blossoms around KL lately? The photos of the carpet of blooms were taken last week on a walk near KDE not far from our old MS/HS campus. The pink and white blossoms were everywhere and reminiscent of the cherry blossoms in Japan. With so many people out and about taking photos, Jom Belajar decided to investigate!

It turns out that the trumpet-shaped flowers belong to the Tecoma tree which blooms in Malaysia from February through April. The bloom lasts for only two weeks so you have to be quick to see it. The flowers are paper-thin and carpet the ground when they fall so it’s a bit like walking in pink and white snow.

According to a recent Facebook post by Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL), the DBKL not only planted the trees for the shade and greenery they provide but also for their stunning beauty. According to the post, the DBKL has planted 10,030 tecoma trees around WPKL including 1,173 on the edge of roads around the city. The trees have also been planted in public parks under the supervision of DBKL. In addition to the KDE park, the tecoma trees can be seen on the edge of the main roads around Jalan Kelang Lama, Jalan Kuching, Jalan Sri Permaisuri, Jalan Metroprima Kepong and NPE Highway.
