Fundraiser-Chispani-T

It all began with a simple idea: to keep this group of Nepali children warm during the harsh winter. Instantaneously, six of us (ISKL GAP trip participants) gathered together to bring alive this Christmas-inspired bake sale, to fundraise coats and hats for a total of 28 students and teachers. The community of Chisapani, Nepal was our main inspiration for this project. We, therefore, engaged Ms. Binita, a teacher in Chisapani, whom we asked if there was anything we could help with for her school and, connecting us to Ranjana and ultimately Naba Raj, who is here working in KL. They provided us with the list of children who are studying in the school we had the opportunity of visiting during our GAP trip to Nepal and sent us individual photos of each student.

We were not expecting the amount of support we received from the ISKL community. As soon as the donation form was sent out, there was an overwhelming wave of response – students and families volunteered to contribute baked goods and even sponsored sets of coats and hats for the children. What is the wondrous outcome of this? Together, we surpassed our initial goal of fundraising for 28 sets of clothing. AMAZING! All thanks to your generosity and dedication! This made the highly-challenging 7 hours hike up to the village of Chisapani worthwhile and there is no doubt that the community of Chisapani would be smiling from ear to ear to learn how we have turned a little idea into a meaningful cause. And all we did was ask, ‘how can we help?’

Danyabad for your support. The students and teachers of Chispani thank you! ~ En Chyi, Elodie, Agata, Rachel & Sarah
