Welcome to the new school year 2021-2022!

Some of us were away, and some of us were here during the June-July holiday. No matter where they are, our students are constantly tuning in to what is happening around them, and if they see some opportunities to help, they waste no time adding them to their holiday activities!

Here are some examples of heart-warming acts of kindness: some students reached out to friends and others to help with their learning, while some students volunteered at vaccination centers in KL and Klang Valley with their families. Those passionate about environmental concerns explored ways to reduce household waste by recycling cooking oil, learning from some NGOs in creative and innovative ways. And those with prior community partnership experiences connected with NGOs that advocate for people with dire needs for essential everyday items. We have not yet learned about others, and we shall look forward to doing so in due course.

One example of great collaboration to work around the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) in KL in July was reported by two Juniors on behalf of the HS community partnership club MER-C, where they interacted with an MSRI refugee learning center at Ampang Point. After successfully collecting a large number of books, toys, and other items from their respective residential premises, they encountered the problem of transportation; however, with the help of an ISKL staff member, they were able to transfer the goods to the center!

What we do in our everyday learning at school transfers to our personal and community life. Let these inspiring stories guide us to exercise our agency and initiatives in the new academic year!
