In Semester 1 of the 2023/24 academic year, a series of outstanding showcases and concerts were held at the Robert B. Gaw Theatre and Melawati Theatre, leaving many lasting memories in the ISKL community. Students from all divisions, including the band, strings, philharmonic orchestra, dance clubs, and choir, showcased their remarkable talents and skills. These performances were a testament to the dedication of ISKL’s students and teachers to the arts and their commitment to demonstrating the power of the arts to inspire, uplift, and bring people together while highlighting our commitment to providing a well-rounded education that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and personal growth.

These remarkable performances were made possible thanks to the unwavering passion and commitment of our music faculty and those who’ve worked tirelessly behind the scenes to bring these showcases to life. We express our gratitude to all of you for helping us create breathtaking memories that will stay with us forever.

HS Talent Show, September 21, 2023

High School Talent Show

The start of the academic year was celebrated with the High School Talent Show, where over 70 talented students showcased their exceptional talents, such as traditional dances, band performances, and more. In addition to the performances, the Visual Arts students impressed the audience with their unique artistic displays, and students from Cooking classes added to the occasion by serving mouth-watering delicacies. It was an afternoon to remember, and everyone left the Robert B. Gaw Theatre with a great sense of anticipation and excitement for the year ahead.

Shrek, The Musical, October 4-6, 2023

Shrek-The-Musical

High School students performed their magical rendition of the story Shrek the Musical, the much-loved animated movie and Broadway show. From the cast and crew, logistics and lighting, music and marketing, and costume and choreography, it was impressive to see students, parents, faculty, and staff so dedicated to creating such an enjoyable show with just eight weeks of preparation. Here, students pursued their passion and stepped out of their comfort zones, learning to develop their skills in collaborating constructively, thinking creatively, and communicating effectively.

Captivating performances by the Middle Youth Orchestra and High School ISKL Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (IYPO) delighted the audience at the Robert B. Gaw Theatre with the magical theme of ‘Viva La Danza,’ a captivating celebration of orchestral dance music from around the world. From the moment the musicians began to play, it was clear that they had poured their hearts and souls into their music. Every note was played with such precision and emotion, leaving all in awe of their incredible talent.

ES/MS/HS Dance Show: The Nutcracker, Reimagined – November 9 & 10, 2023

The Nutcracker, Reimagined - Dance Show

For the show The Nutcracker, Reimagined, the event featured ES, MS, and HS dancers in an all-school dance production! Under the leadership of Grade 11 student Victoria W. (’25), audience members got into the holiday spirit by following characters Clara and the Nutcracker’s journey around the world in a reimagined urban setting loosely following the famous Nutcracker storyline. Victoria’s team of 84 students performed their hearts out, and after collecting nearly 800 stationary gifts that audience members donated, they distributed these gifts to HS Partnership groups. The Melawati Theatre was abuzz with excitement as families gathered to witness the Grade 4 Music Share – a highly anticipated event showcasing the young students’ musical progress. Parents were excited to see how their children fared musically for the first semester, and the air was filled with anticipation and pride as the young musicians took to the stage, showcasing their talent and hard work.

Talented and passionate MS students showcased awe-inspiring music during the MS Band Music Concert, resulting from countless hours of hard work, practice, and unwavering dedication. With hundreds of students involved, a magnificent display of teamwork, discipline, and commitment left everyone in awe. The tunes were so melodic and enchanting that they truly captured the spirit of the holiday season, with the audience leaving the Robert B. Gaw Theatre in high spirits full of joy.
