KUALA LUMPUR: Four Malaysian students were awarded scholarships to study at The International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) at a special award ceremony held on May 23, 2022. 

Rhenu Arivananthan and Delphine Thompson received ISKL’s prestigious two-year International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Scholarship and Vidyaasni Pretyba Uthiya Kumar and Soraya Hani Bte Shuhaizan were awarded the inaugural four-year ISKL High School Pathways Scholarship.

Encik Fauzi Asirop, Director of Private Education Department, Ministry of Education Malaysia who presented the recipients with their certificates congratulated them on their achievements saying, “Today is a very special day to honour their achievements as they become ambassadors for this country.”

Encik Fauzi continued, “To date, ISKL has helped 40 Malaysian students earn their IB Diploma through the scholarship program. ISKL is Malaysia’s longest-running World IB School offering the IB Diploma for more than 30 years and the IB scholarship programme since 2002. The Ministry congratulates ISKL for pioneering this as well as initiating a new scholarship program called ISKL Pathways.”

The IB scholarship recipients, SPM leavers, Rhenu Arivananthan and Delphine Thompson previously attended Sekolah Menengah Sains Hulu Selangor and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Assunta, Petaling Jaya, Selangor respectively. They are the 39th and 40th recipients of this prestigious scholarship.

During the event, ISKL Head of School Rami Madani thanked the Ministry of Education for their ongoing support, noting that ISKL was delighted to have this opportunity to give back to the Malaysian community.  He then congratulated the recipients saying, “You impressed us with your academic achievements as well as the diversity of your interests and community involvement. What resonated deeply with our panel was the high expectation that you have for yourself and your desire to improve conditions for yourself, others, and our world. This embodies ISKL’s Vision and Mission and we are excited about the contribution you will each make to our school and community.”

ISKL’s Scholarship Program, approved by the Ministry of Education Malaysia, awards Malaysian Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) leavers with a scholarship to study the rigorous two-year International Baccalaureate Diploma. Since its inception, scholarship recipients have graduated from ISKL and attended leading universities worldwide. Applications for the IB Scholarship are based on academic records, co-curricular involvement, and commitment to community service, with shortlisted applicants undertaking an entrance exam and panel interview.

Recipients of the ISKL Pathways Scholarships, Form 3 leavers, Vidyaasni Pretyba Uthiya   Kumar and Soraya Hani Bte Shuhaizan previously attended SMK Pusat Bandar Puchong 1, Selangor and SMK (Perempuan) Sri Aman, Selangor respectively.

Pathways Scholarship Recipients

 

This is the first year ISKL has offered the merit and needs-based ISKL Pathways Scholarship which provides two Malaysian Form 3 students with a four-year period of study from Grade 9 to Grade 12. Recipients benefit from ISKL’s flexible High School pathways which include innovative study options as well as the IB Diploma. In addition to an appropriate scholastic level, students were required to demonstrate their alignment with ISKL’s Vision and Mission by showcasing their passion for creating a positive impact on local communities, understanding of global issues, and proven experience with a cause they believe is fundamental to societal progress.
