Thaipusam Public Holiday PosterSemester 2 is well and truly underway! In addition to the rich learning that takes place in the classroom each day, our students are also engaged in activities that enable them to explore their passions and better understand themselves. In Elementary School, students will be performing in the musical Aristocats Kids (January 25-26), excitement is building in Middle School with students engaging in their Agency projects and preparing for Malaysia Week, and in High School, students are preparing we are once again hosting ISKL’s longest-running event, South East Asia (SEA) Forensics & Debate (January 25-27).

School-wide, we are looking forward to Inclusive Schools Week. Starting Monday, January 29, Inclusive Schools Week is an annual global event for schools to reflect on their inclusion journey. At ISKL, nurturing a culture of inclusion, cultivating DEIJ mindsets, and embracing the diversity present in our own and each other’s identities are integral to our school’s Guiding Statements and embedded within all we do. While our focus on inclusion and equity is practiced every day, Inclusive Schools Week provides an opportunity to raise additional awareness and remind our entire community of the importance of building a school culture where everyone – regardless of their differences – feels included, valued, supported, and successful.

Centered around the theme, Unity Within Our Community, the week comprises events and activities for students, learning sessions for employees, and learning opportunities for parents, including VOX ISKL Leveraging Language Learning with Dr Gianfranco Conti on Wednesday, February 7.

With a student body representing more than 70 nationalities and well over 30 languages spoken, multilingualism is fundamental to creating connection and inclusion, and we are excited to be hosting this important event. Dr. Conti, an expert in language learning who conducts language workshops for schools around the world, will be speaking about how the benefits of learning a language at school last a lifetime, explore how children acquire new languages, and share how parents can support their child’s language learning at home. The session is relevant to those who speak one language or many, and as with all our VOX ISKL events, the session is open to both the ISKL and the wider community. We very much hope you enjoy the week, the learning, and the fun.

Finally, for those who are celebrating Thaipusam, we wish you and your family a very blessed Thaipusam!
