SUSTAINABILITY AT ISKL

ISKL is a member of the Eco-Schools organization and was the first school in Malaysia to receive a Green Flag Award in 2013, an internationally recognized award for excellence in environmental action and learning. ISKL is also the first school to achieve Malaysia’s Green Building Index Platinum rating for sustainable design.

We would like to congratulate the International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) for the efforts and time dedicated to turning your school into a greener place. The whole school is built to reduce the impact on the environment. All school activities (clubs, sports, community work, indoors, outdoors, etc) are linked to their eco-program... The school is an Eco-School Model for other International schools to follow and learn. They are a showcase of the benefits of the eco-school program

The Eco-Schools Programme is coordinated by the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) in Malaysia. It is the largest sustainable school program in the world, with 52,000 schools registered in the program in 67 countries.

One of our School-wide Learning Results is to Live Ethically, which calls for each of us to demonstrate personal and social responsibility in the way we care and work to improve conditions for ourselves, others, and this place. We have several Sustainability Clubs at ISKL that aim to create more change and awareness around the school through activities and events, and also by implementing strategies to reduce energy consumption and resource waste. These clubs include the Earth Club, Green Council, and Gardening Club.

Several projects initiated through the Development Fund, including the jungle walls at the school entrances, jungle trees in the Coaches Garden, and the Community Edible Garden, have provided inspiration for more teacher and student-led projects in the future. ISKL’s Teaching & Learning and Sustainability leads from across the three divisions have been working to ensure the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are present in our student learning. At ISKL, we focus on empowering and encouraging our students to see the world from a different perspective, adopt an international mindset, and work collaboratively towards shared understanding and goals.
