As always, it has been a full week school-wide!  Whether it is our Elementary students engaged in visual arts and exploring drawing techniques, our Middle School students looking at ratios, or our High School students analyzing Aravind Adiga’s Booker Prize novel, The White Tiger, I continue to be impressed with the depth of learning and engagement that I see during my classroom visits. I also speak on behalf of all our faculty and staff when I say what joy it gives us all to see our campus filled with students engaged in after school activities. It is not a sight that we will take for granted for a very long time!

MS Activities April 15

It is also wonderful to see our students so actively involved in community service, deepening their understanding of the importance of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and learning to make positive changes in the world. Service and sustainability are key learning pillars embedded both within our curriculum and co-curricular activities with the goal of helping our students not only understand that they can each make a difference in creating a better world but also learn how to make that difference.

Today our ES students held a free dress day to raise money for Kiva, a non-profit organization providing loans to low-income entrepreneurs and students in 77 countries. This initiative is part of the Grade 5 Red Hats’ focus on the SDGs as they learn about how helping people start or sustain a business can change lives. Next week will see our school celebrate Earth Week with a range of activities taking place from ES students planting in our Eco Garden to an Earth Fest event organized by our High School Student Leadership Team.

ES Vaccination ClinicEarlier this week we saw another 180+ students aged 5-11 receive their vaccine at our pop-up Vaccination Center. The initiative was part of the government’s PICKids vaccination program conducted with the support of the Titiwangsa District Health Department. The good news is that both our ES and MS/HS health teams are seeing a decline in the number of positive cases which indicates the combination of vaccination and SOPs are being effective. With the majority of sectors open and operating normally, we are continuing to advocate with authorities to be able to hold our traditional end-of-year events involving parents on campus and will keep you informed.

This week and next there are some important celebrations for different members of our community – the Tamil New Year yesterday (April 14), Easter Sunday (April 17), and Salam Nuzul Al-Quran next Tuesday (April 19). Our good wishes to all those observing these special occasions.

In partnership
