head of school greets a parentThis week has truly embodied ISKL’s sense of community, connection, and collaboration with parents, students, faculty, and staff supporting each other, and offering their help and care as we settle into the school year.

Have you ever heard the saying ‘you are what you overcome’? It is an expression that resonates a lot with me because I truly believe that challenges are part of learning and growing up. These challenges may be of a social or emotional nature, or related to student learning. Our role at ISKL is to ensure the long-term success of our students; not by eliminating challenges, but by helping students navigate and overcome them so that they become highly successful, spirited, socially responsible global citizens.

And we are not doing this alone! A strong partnership between our parents and the school is the foundation for setting up the best learning environment to help our students navigate, and untimely overcome challenges. This week’s Open Houses, across all divisions, are some of the best expressions of that partnership. A shared understanding between school and family is fundamental to learning, and the Open House is an important forum for teachers to share with parents what learning will look like for their child during the year ahead. Our teachers place huge value on this opportunity, and the role constructive collaboration and shared expectations play in shaping the learning journeys of our students and the school-parent partnership.

Yours in collaboration and learning,

Rami Madani
Head of School
