IB AP Score

Kuala Lumpur, 6 July 2018: Students from The International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) have achieved outstanding academic results on the IB and AP exams. An outstanding 98% of the 104 candidates passed the IB Diploma. In particular, 30 students scored 40 or more points, which typically places them in the top 10% of worldwide results.

Five students from The International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) have achieved outstanding academic results, placing them in the top 1% of all International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) candidates worldwide. Qijia Wei and Kris Jeong achieved the perfect score of 45 points while Myeong Jin Choi, Maya Gan, and In Hwan Um scored 44 points for the diploma program. ISKL’s IB Diploma students who scored 40+ points have also increased over the past 2 years, from 20% in 2017 to 29% in 2018, placing them among the top 10% candidates worldwide. This year, we also saw the largest cohort of the IB Diploma program ever at ISKL, a total of 102 students have earned their IB Diploma with the average score of 36.4 points, surpassing the 2018 worldwide average of 29.8. Twenty percent of the students who undertook the program earned a Bilingual Diploma. This is a remarkable achievement for any international school that has been authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. We are extremely proud of our students and faculty for their dedication in achieving such great results.

ISKL IB SCORES SURPASS WORLDWIDE AND ASIA-PACIFIC AVERAGES
The worldwide average score for IB Diploma is 29.8 while the Asia-Pacific average was 33.4. ISKL surpassed both with an overall average IB score of 36.1. In fact, this has been the case for the past five years as the students have maintained an average score of 35.4 on their IB exams from 2014 to 2018.

Another highlight is that the passing rate in ISKL stands at 98% while the worldwide passing rate is consistently around 80%. This is our highest record over the past five years and significantly higher than the worldwide rate of 78.4% based on 2017 statistics.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) RESULTS
Continuing ISKL’s tradition of academic excellence, our students taking the Advanced Placement (AP) courses received a remarkable achievement. The average ISKL subject score for students taking an ISKL AP class is 4.0 out of a possible 5.0. It is worthy to note that 73% of the 75 ISKL students in AP classes who took the exam scored 4.0 and 5.0, which represents students are very well qualified or extremely well qualified respectively according to the AP standards.

ISKL’S ACADEMIC LEGACY
The sheer volume of IB students achieving such high scores is a testament to ISKL’s IB Diploma program. Since 1992, ISKL has supported more than 1,300 students in obtaining the IB Diploma. ISKL is also the first and only international school in Kuala Lumpur that offers Advanced Placement (AP) university preparatory courses. The rigor and focus of the program can advance the students’ prospects of acceptance to world class universities. As a non-selective program, ISKL faculty work hard to ensure that each student is mentored and supported throughout the course of study. In offering the program on a non-selective basis, the IB Diploma pass rate maintains at 96.4% over the last 27 years (1992 – 2018).

THE IB SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM FOR SPM LEAVERS
Since its inception in 2002, ISKL’s IB Scholarship Program has provided outstanding educational opportunities for a limited number of Malaysian students with exceptional talents. To date, 30 Malaysian students have benefited from our IB Scholarship Program and attended some of the world’s finest universities including Harvard, Oxford, Princeton, Yale, London School of Economics, and others.

Note: The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) will not make some world data available until November. Information from the previous year has therefore been noted for reference in some cases.
