The Melawati Theatre was absolutely packed, creating the perfect buzz for the HS Talent Show!

Over 70 students took to the stage, sharing their talents across a range of genres, from classical music and popular hits to modern dance and choir pieces. Alex H. (‘27), a student co-leader of the event, explained that the showcase was a Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) project, a core component of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). Alex shared that he and fellow student organizers envisioned an event that would allow students with all kinds of talents and acts to express their passions. During auditions, the organizers were intentional in having “As few cuts as possible to maximize the number of people who can perform. We held auditions to assess the types of acts we would be dealing with, as well as to ensure the proficiency and readiness of the performers in the show.”

Showcasing Student Leadership Skills

The HS Talent Show was more than just a showcase of talent; the event also provided students with valuable opportunities to develop leadership skills and learn the intricacies of organizing a large-scale production. These life skills are essential, preparing students to collaborate effectively, adapt to challenges, and lead with confidence both in and beyond school.

When asked about the organizational process, co-leader of the event Alex shared, “Our first meeting focused on setting deadlines and systems. We created audition forms and posters to estimate the number of performers, and then discussed logistics, including attendees, art exhibits, and catering, for approximately 350 people, with three treats each. As the show day drew near, we shifted our focus from logistics to marketing, resulting in increased ticket sales at the door. Balancing the International Baccalaureate’s Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) work with logistics was a unique challenge, with the proposal and reflections requiring continuous attention.”

Zahira D. (‘27), another student co-leader of the event, said, “The most valuable lesson I learned was patience - working with catering, sound checks, auditions, and fellow students taught me to trust the process and work efficiently in a team.”

As always, a huge shout-out goes to the students and employees who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, managing lights, sound, stage, and logistics, to ensure the entire event ran seamlessly. Their dedication is what allows our performers to shine! Congratulations to all the students who performed and organized this spectacular event. You've set a high bar for the year ahead. You’ve made us #ISKLproud!
