Health, Nutrition, and Safety
Health
We have a team of full-time nurses on duty in ISKL’s three fully-equipped clinics to provide care for students who become ill, injured, or need treatment or medication administration. Our nurses also play an active role in classroom and community education and conduct health screenings throughout the school year.
Health services are available to provide support for students during weekend and after school sporting events activities. There is also a dedicated sports physiotherapist on campus who supports our ISKL athletes.
ISKL’s health clinics also serve as a resource for health-related issues for students, families, and the classroom. The nurses actively collaborate with medical organizations and professionals in Malaysia and the World Health Organization, and they are active members of the International School Nurses of Asia organization. These resources ensure the school community is updated on such relevant topics as tropical diseases, local and global health issues, and evidence-based school health.
The health and safety of our community is a collective responsibility, and individual immunization plays an important role in protecting our students from serious diseases. In order to keep our community healthy and safe, ISKL follows the vaccination schedules of the World Health Organization and Ministry of Health Malaysia. A chart of the schedule is shown below; please note that it may differ from your home country’s schedule. Students are only able to start school after we have received the completed health forms and our nurses have verified that the immunizations required by ISKL are up to date and Tuberculosis (TB) screening is complete.

ISKL recommends but does not require the following:
- Annual influenza vaccine.
- Dengue - please consult with your doctor regarding this vaccine.
- Human Papillomavirus (HPV) – a series of two injections six months apart for ages 9-14 years to prevent cervical cancer. If the student is 15 years or above at the time of the first injection, a three-course schedule should be followed.
- Typhoid – can either be given as an injection every two years or a series of pills every five years.
Malaria pills are not necessary in Kuala Lumpur.
Nutrition and Cafeterias
ISKL cafeteria providers offer a delicious, highly nutritious, and well-balanced menu.
Elementary and High/Middle School cafeterias offer both local and international cuisine to cater to a diverse community, and all food is pork and nut-free. Vegetarian and vegan options are available, and allergens are clearly displayed on the menu.
Access to safe drinking water is supplied via filtered water fountains and coolers located throughout the school. ISKL discourages single-use plastic and requests all community members to support their sustainability efforts by bringing reusable water bottles.
ISKL’s dedicated dietitian works across each division to provide nutritional advice on healthy food balance and preparation practices and ensure that a variety of wholesome and nutritious meals are served.

Minum Cafe
Conveniently located on the ground floor in the lobby area, Minum Cafe serves a range of hot and cold beverages, snacks, and bakery selection.
It is a popular venue for parents and High School students alike to meet and eat. A takeaway service is also available for adults and High School students.
Packed Lunch
All students are welcome to bring home-packed lunches or snacks. Microwaves are available for heating purposes.
Safety
ISKL has a comprehensive suite of policies, protocols, and procedures to ensure best practices in health and safety. These are prepared in conjunction with Malaysian and international guidelines and regulations and are reviewed and evaluated regularly. All faculty and staff are trained in their implementation.
ISKL’s security guards provide 24/7 frontline and on-campus security services to maintain a safe yet inviting and flexible campus for all community members and visitors. Our campus is monitored 24/7 by closed-circuit cameras (CCTV) and is further supported by a technologically advanced range of security and safety systems.
In line with the Malaysian Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) 2010, ISKL has policies and procedures to ensure data privacy and protect any personal information processed by the school. View our Privacy Policy.

School IDs
ISKL students and their direct family members are issued an ID card.
ID cards are required for the cashless payment system used at ISKL, for checking out books from the libraries, and for access to school facilities (in line with campus access and facilities use guidelines).
All Elementary School student ID cards are kept with the teachers.
Lockers for Middle and High School Students
Each Middle and High School student is assigned a locker and a combination lock.
Students are reminded to keep their valuables inside their lockers and are encouraged not to bring valuable items unrelated to school activities.
