Sarah Chandran - Panthers of ISKL

The Tireless Tech

This week we met up with Sarah Chandran, Elementary School’s (ES) Technology Department staff who has been nominated to be interviewed by Steve Katz, ISKL’s ES Technology Coordinator. She has been working at ISKL since 1997 and started off working as the Music, Art, and PE assistant for several years before being promoted to technical support staff in the IT department.

Born in Kuala Lumpur, Sarah is the second child of four siblings. After finishing secondary school, she decided to pursue her passion for Information Technology (IT) and has completed numerous training and courses related to her work, including the IT Apple certification.

Sarah’s favorite hobby is spending time with family, playing badminton, board games, bowling, cycling, and jogging with her kids. She loves to cook, watch movies, gardening and take her dog for a walk. She also has a small garden in front of her house with many flowering plants like roses, hibiscus, mango tree, and curry leaves.

She lives in Rawang together with her husband, Chandran, and their three daughters.

Here is her story.

“For 22 years, I’ve enjoyed my journey working in an established and multicultural environment. One of the main reasons I joined ISKL is that I see the opportunity to contribute my skills and experience to a forward-thinking educational sector. I’m blessed to be part of the ISKL community to meet this goal together.

‘My job is to support the ISKL community – whether they be students, parents, faculty, and staff in the general use of ISKL’s standard hardware and software tools to execute their daily tasks. My daily activities are to solve problems and make daily decisions relative to the Tech Support responsibilities and ensure that effective Help Desk representation coordinates work processes and projects with other departments and divisions. I also ensure there is accurate inventory control in the Web-HelpDesk and do record-keeping from purchase to placement.

‘I also maintain the documentation of hardware, software, and related configuration and liaise with the inforSarah Chandranmation systems staff to create and maintain accounts and groups for Active Directory, Panther Apps, PowerSchool, and other technology-based learning products, and subscriptions, including but not limited to creating accounts for Learning A-Z, Raz-Kids, BigUniverse, Seesaw, One More Story, Story Park, and Typing Web. I manage the purchase process for the ES Tech Office, including obtaining multiple quotes, preparing purchase orders in the Sage system, and receiving delivery.

‘I am proud that we have successfully managed to distribute 400 devices, laptops, and iPads to the students during this MCO as needed for their online learning program.

‘During the summer break starters, I ensure to deploy a re-imaging process for laptops and iPads before the next school year starts. I’m so happy with my job and working with a supportive and great team.

‘For me, the most memorable moments at ISKL are the dress-up days or cultural celebration days. You can see the whole ISKL community dress up in traditional attire – what colorful fun!

‘My number one priority is my family – family plays a significant role in my life, and with their help and support, I am where I am today because of their sacrifices. They also help shape my character and personality to be a better daughter, wife, mother, and friend to those around me.”

What does ‘Be All You Are mean’ to you?

“To me, “Be All You Are” means” to learn to be successful, keep growing and exploring around you and be the best you can be.”
