This week we met up with one of our youngest panthers, Jia Jia Elizabeth P., from Grade 1, who has been at ISKL since Prep Reception! This semester, Jia Jia created a beautiful ISKL themed batik fabric art piece on her own which she shared with her class during the lockdown. Here is her story.
How long have you been painting batik?  I am now six years old, but I started batik painting when I was two. I have made a lot of ISKL batik art pieces. I like making batik art and have even made a batik t-shirt. I have sold some of them to my art teacher, Ms. Rebecca Osthoff! When I make batik art, it makes me feel calm. The one I am making now will be hung in my bedroom.

How fast did you learn the Melawati Way, and how do you practice it? I learned it in two years. I turn my toys into people, and if one of them gets hurt, I will take care of them. That’s how I learned to take care of myself and others and take care of this place.

What are your hobbies and interests? What do you love doing after school? I enjoy riding my bike. When I was five, I started to learn how to ride with two wheels!

Tell us about your future job, what do you want to be when you grow up? I would like to be a model, teacher, or maybe a jewelry maker – in my spare time I make earrings! But if I can have any superpower, I want to be Wonder Woman because she is really strong.

What does “Be All You Are” mean to you? Everyone is different, and they can be whatever they want to be.

Do you know a student, faculty, staff, or alumni with a story to tell? Nominate them to be featured in our Panthers of ISKL stories by sending in your submissions to PanthersofISKL.
