Panthers of ISKL #323: Dean T. (‘34) - The Kind Soccer Player

Elementary students panthers of ISKL

“ISKL is very special to me because I have been in ISKL for a very long time now, and I feel very connected to the school and friends that I have made along the way ”.

Meet Dean T. (‘34), an ES student whose kindness for others and Panther spirit are recognized throughout ISKL, valued by teachers and students alike. We learn not only about his love for soccer, rock climbing, and evolving passion for gardening, but also what it means to him to be an ISKL Panther.

Here is Dean’s story:

Can you tell us more about yourself? What grade did you join ISKL in?

I am from Singapore and Canada. I joined ISKL in Grade 1. I have three cats named Reggie, Lala, and Archie. And two dogs, named Bubbles and Oli.

We understand that you particularly enjoy rock climbing and soccer. What inspires you in these activities, and how often do you participate in them in a week?

My mom likes soccer, and she introduced me to watching the highlights of the matches on TV. I participate in playing it every day at recess with my friends at the new rooftop field.

As for rock climbing, I decided to try a different ASA this year, and the teachers are Ms Foxman and Mr Swindells, who was my Grade 3 Homeroom teacher.

What is your favorite subject in school? And what is your favorite part of your school day?

My favorite subject in school is writing because I get to type an essay on the computer in the common area. My favorite part of the school day is recess because I get to play soccer.

What do you like to do during break times when you have free time?

I like to draw 3D objects like chairs and cubes because I think 3D drawings are interesting.

What else do you enjoy doing outside of school? What are your hobbies and interests?

I really like gardening because we don’t have to waste money on vegetables. At home, I have tomatoes, basil, curry leaves, pumpkins, and chili padi.

We are told that you truly embody the ISKL spirit through your empathy, kindness, and care. Who are your role models?

My family and my teachers - Mr. Swindells and Ms. Mel.

What is your most memorable moment at ISKL?

Being in Team A in U9 football last year, coached by Coach Jonny and Coach Naresh.

What do you want to do/be when you grow up?

I want to be a professional soccer player when I grow up.

What does the Melawati Way mean to you? And how do you practice it outside of school?

It means a lot to me, and now it is a part of my life because it helps me to become a better person, no matter where I go, by being kind, empathetic, and taking care of myself and others around me.

Which Panther are you?

The Most Baik Panther –  (Baik means kindhearted)

Share why you chose this superlative and how it shows your Panther spirit!

The Most Baik Panther best describes me because I always put others before myself. By being kind, you can make someone’s day. It doesn’t take a lot to be kind; just a wave or a smile will make someone happy.

Tell us why ISKL is special to you and what you like most about the school.

ISKL is very special to me because I have been in ISKL for a very long time now, and I feel very connected to the school and friends that I have made along the way.

What does the ISKL vision ‘Know yourself, care for all and create a better world” mean to you?

It means everything to me because it is very close to my heart and to who I am to myself, to others, and to the world. The world needs more love!
