Panthers of ISKL #293: Aiman Tan - The Agile Panther

Elementary students swimming competition

Whenever something feels impossible, there’s always someone who steps in to help, often without me even asking. It’s as if they instinctively know when I need support the most. That’s why I try to do the same for others, whether it’s offering a hand or simply listening when they need it.

We meet with Aiman Tan, Team Assistant for Middle School Activities and Athletics, who brings a unique blend of agility, warmth, and initiative to his role, qualities that have made him a valued part of the ISKL community since joining in May 2023.

With a background that spans teaching, coaching, and technology, Aiman’s diverse experience enables him to support both the logistical and human aspects of ISKL’s vibrant activities and athletics programs.

Here is Aiman’s story:

Can you tell us more about yourself?

My name is Coach Aiman, and I currently reside in Sendayan, Seremban.

I previously worked as a swimming instructor for two years, a PE teacher for one year at GEMS International School, and for two years at Peninsula International School, and most recently at an Internet of Things (IoT) company, before joining ISKL in May 2023.

Please tell us about your job role as a Team Assistant for MS Activities & Athletics. What are your daily activities?

My daily routine involves supervising MS students during lunchtime in the Jungle Gym and the After School Activities (ASA) program. Also, I’m helping the MS Athletics and Activities Director,  Paul McTigue in ensuring all documentations, finance, and tracking of the MS ASA program (faculty and vendors), trips (international and local), inventory (jersey and equipment) and hosting tournaments in and out of ISKL for activities and athletics ASA are well equipped and prepared.

Can you tell us about anything exciting or interesting happening at ISKL that you’re a part of?

Probably the most exciting or interesting thing would be trying something new every day. To be more specific, in my work environment, you have to be able to adapt, work at a fast pace, be agile, and sometimes make quick decisions to ensure the program runs as smoothly as possible. You might not know what is coming next, and you need to be prepared. Just like in sports.

Can you tell us more about your hobbies and interests? What do you do after work?

I’m a sports person and my hobbies are playing sports. I play badminton and pickleball occasionally on weekends and with people in the ISKL community after work. I’ve also done some hikes, coached Personal Training sessions, and a bit of marathons (10km and half marathons).

My interests are probably in technology. I love using technical equipment and staying up-to-date with the latest technology.

What is your most memorable moment so far at ISKL?

The most memorable moments for me so far at ISKL have been attending Malaysia Week in 2023, 2024, and 2025. Why? Well, simply because you get to travel with MS students, teachers, and parents and get to know all of their characters outside of ISKL.

Who or what inspires you?

Honestly, what inspires me the most is watching our MS students-athletes' progress in academics, activities, and athletics. I may not be able to educate them in academics, but I do love to coach the students and see their improvement from nothing to something. That is what inspires me to do my job every single day.

Which Panther are you?

🐾 I am the Most Onz Panther – (Onz means nothing is impossible)

Share why you chose this superlative and how it shows your Panther spirit!

I’m the Most Onz Panther because there is no such thing as “impossible” in ISKL. Whenever something feels impossible, there’s always someone who steps in to help, often without me even asking. It’s as if they instinctively know when I need support the most. That’s why I try to do the same for others, whether it’s offering a hand or simply listening when they need it.

Tell us why ISKL is special to you:

I Suka (Like) ISKL because it is a place where you feel that you can improve yourself to be a better person. Additionally, it is a place where you feel connected to everyone from different worlds and are respected for who you are.

What does ISKL’s vision, “Know yourself, care for all and create a better world,” mean to you?

  • Know yourself - For me, this means being honest about what drives you, what you truly believe in, and the kind of person you aspire to become.
  • Care for All - Show empathy and kindness not just to people close to you, but also to those who are different or far away.
  • Create a better world - The idea is to leave things better than you found them, for people, the environment, and the future.

To conclude, be kind and true to yourself, then you will be able to be kind to others, which translates to a better future, especially to the younger generations.
