Panthers of ISKL #285: Greta R. (‘33) - The Curious Panther
“Something I found hard to learn but feel proud of now is speaking English. After three months here at ISKL, I could understand what people were saying. Then, after about four or five months, I could actually speak it."
Originally from Milan, Greta R. (‘33) is a Grade 3 student who joined ISKL with limited English but now confidently embraces ISKL life whether reading in the quiet of the ES library, tackling 1000-piece puzzles, or joining ASAs like Robotix, Bake by Whisk Me Away, and Little Architect.
Greta also enjoys writing, sports like track and field, rock climbing, and volleyball, and is inspired by her friend Chloe, who helped her feel welcome and motivated her to improve in English and math.
Here is Greta's story:
Tell us about yourself
I’m from Italy. I lived in Milan before moving to Asia and joined ISKL in Grade 3.
What is your favorite subject at school, and where is the best place to hang out on campus?
I like writing and going to the ES library because it’s usually quiet and there are lots of books. I also like the 500–1000-piece puzzles there.
What’s something you found hard to learn but feel proud of now?
Speaking English. After three months here at ISKL, I could understand what people were saying. Then, after about four or five months, I could actually speak.
What are your hobbies and interests?
I like reading and playing sports, especially track and field, rock climbing, and volleyball.
Do you take part in any ASAs? Please describe them.
I do Bake by Whisk Me Away, where we cook, take the food home, and eat it. I also do Robotix using Legos that you can control.
Another one is Little Architect. We usually get a theme like restaurants or shops, and then we build them however we want. The last one we did was futuristic buildings.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
A geologist or a vet.
Who or what inspires you?
My friend Chloe. She was my first friend and is really good at math, English, and sports. I’m not that good at math, so she inspires me.
If you could have any superpower, what would that be and why?
I’d want to be able to run fast, fly, and swim - so I could do anything.
If you had a time machine, would you visit the past or the future? If so, what would you do there?
I’d go to the future, like 2050, to see what’s happening. If there’s something useful, I could bring it back to the present.
What does “Know yourself, care for all, and create a better world” mean to you?
It means trying to stop things like war and hunger and making the world better for everyone. Not everybody has to be friends, but we can still help each other.
