Panthers of ISKL #270: Miles J. (‘32) - The Runner
"I focus on running, taking part in Cross Country and Track & Field. Making the team was exciting for me! We ran 1.5 km during practice, but for the AIMS tournament, we raced 2 km. Running makes me feel great! ”
For one Grade 5 student Miles J. (‘32), speed isn't just a passion—it’s a way of life! Whether he's sprinting down the track, pushing through long-distance cross-country runs, or gazing up at the skies with dreams of aviation, he's always on the move. His dedication and determination have earned him gold in the 60m Team B race and silvers in the 400m Team B and 4 x 100m Team B recently at the AIMS Track and Field Tournament, proving that his love for running extends across all distances.
Whether on the track, the trails, or dreaming about planes, he’s always reaching for new heights. Keep reading to learn more about his journey in sports and the skies!
Here is Miles’ story:
Tell me about yourself. What grade did you join ISKL in, and how long have you been at ISKL?
I'm 11 years old and have been at ISKL for four years. Before that, I lived in Jakarta. I love sports and have a big collection of airplane toys at home. I enjoy relaxing, but I have to wake up early—except on weekends!
You’re a talented athlete, excelling in both gymnastics and running. What do you love most about each sport?
I focus more on running, taking part in Cross Country and Track & Field. Making the team was exciting for me! We ran 1.5 km during practice, but for the AIMS tournament, we raced 2 km. Running makes me feel great, though long-distance races like the 800 meters sometimes give me a tummy ache—or make me really thirsty!
We heard that you’re passionate about aviation. What sparked your interest in airplanes and airlines?
It all started when I was six years old. During Covid, my family traveled to America, and I became fascinated by planes. I love their size—they’re just so big!
What is your favorite subject at school and why? Where is the best place to hang out on campus?
I enjoy reading independently, especially graphic novels. One of my favorites is The Bright Family. My favorite hangout spot on campus is the Zurich Field where we train for Track & Field during P.E.
What are your hobbies and interests?
I love playing with airplane toys, especially pretending to take off and land different planes.
Do you take part in any ASAs?
Yes! I do karate and play the clarinet in Band (since everyone has to choose an instrument), and I also enjoy magic and public speaking.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I want to be a commercial pilot flying back and forth between destinations and a coach!
