Panthers of ISKL #242: Emma Z.(‘30) – The Hopeful Panther
“I would love to be an author and/or a recognized environmentalist. I would also love to do a documentary about snow leopards on National Geographic. If not, I want to do something with theatre.”
Meet Emma Z. (‘30), a passionate Grade 7 student from China who spent part of her childhood in Poland before arriving in Malaysia. Emma joined ISKL in 4th grade and has since immersed herself in various activities that reflect her love for the environment, community involvement, and creative pursuits.
With aspirations of becoming an author and environmentalist, read more about her experience, dreams, and what inspires her every day.
Here is Emma’s story:
Can you tell us more about yourself? Which grade did you join ISKL in?
My name is Emma; I am from China. I was in Poland before Malaysia and joined ISKL in 4th grade after the December break.
What were your first days of school like?
They were very confusing. I have this thing where I forget names the second you tell me the name. I was also confused about the eight-day schedule and how the classes worked.
Please tell us what CCAs you are involved in and why.
If you mean ASAs, I am involved in the gardening and climbing ASA clubs. I love gardening, and we are doing much more than just gardening. We are involved in school events, such as sales, to raise money. It feels good to be a part of the community.
Can you tell us more about your other hobbies and interests?
I love to read and am an aspiring author. I also really like basketball and rock climbing. I used to go horseback riding, but it is too hot to do it here without getting overheated.
What are your hopes and dreams for the future?
I would love to be an author and/or a recognized environmentalist. I would also love to do a documentary about snow leopards on National Geographic. If not, I want to do something with theatre.
Who or what inspires you or has influenced you?
I have always loved to read, and every author writes an amazing story. Writing is an art that can be perfected, and I intend to master it.
Most memorable moment at ISKL?
The Middle School parties are always fun – you forget about being scared or shy.
What does “Know yourself, care for all, and create a better world” “mean to you?
To me, it feels like what it would be like in God’s world—no conflict, no self-harm, no depression, or anything like that. It is also almost the polar opposite of Earth: pollution, war, everything. I say nearly because we are making an effort to try to be sustainable. Hopefully, we can do all these things eventually.
