Our Curriculum by Subject

What is the ISKL curriculum for Elementary, Middle, and High School?

At ISKL, our international curriculum blends leading North American educational frameworks with global best practices geared at guiding students from Prep Reception (age 3) through Grade 12.

  • In Elementary School, foundational skills are nurtured through inquiry-based learning.
  • Middle School curriculum encourages student agency and offers a range of specialized electives.
  • High School provides three distinct pathways: the IB Diploma, the Pursuits Program, and the ISKL Diploma.

This cohesive approach supports students in developing the knowledge, skills, and mindsets needed to become confident, compassionate, and future-ready global citizens.

What subjects and programs are offered at ISKL?

Across all divisions, ISKL offers a wide range of specialized programs designed to inspire and support every type of learner.

  • In Elementary School, students experience the 'Melawati Way' and explore interests with dedicated specialists in Art, Music, and PE.
  • Middle School students are encouraged to explore their passions. They are introduced to a wider range of topics through the 'Wheel' elective program, which includes courses such as Design Thinking, Health, and Drama.
  • High School students can choose from over 180 courses spanning eight streams, access unique subjects through the Global Online Academy (GOA), and engage in meaningful service-learning initiatives included in the Global Action Program (GAP).

Common Questions from New Families

At ISKL, we understand that navigating international curricula can feel overwhelming, especially when planning for your child's future. Our pathways are designed to empower students to take ownership of their learning, and we are here to support families every step of the way. Below, we have gathered answers to some of the most common questions from our community.

What is the difference between the American curriculum and the IB track at ISKL?

From Prep Reception through Grade 12, ISKL offers a North American-based curriculum that leads to the ISKL High School Diploma, which is recognized as equivalent to a U.S. diploma. In Grades 11 and 12, students have the flexibility to choose the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma or the Pursuits Program. The former offers an internationally recognized, structured academic experience, while the latter allows students to choose from ISKL course offerings, such as Advanced Placement (AP) or IB courses. This approach allows students to personalize their learning journey and pursue their individual interests and strengths.

What are the primary learning outcomes for ISKL students?

Our curriculum is guided by six School-Wide Learning Results (SLRs) that reflect our commitment to preparing students not only for academic success but also for life beyond the classroom.

  • Think Creatively and Reason Critically
  • Communicate Effectively and Collaborate Constructively
  • Learn Enthusiastically and Live Ethically

These outcomes ensure that students develop the essential skills, such as resilience and empathy, that will help them thrive in a rapidly changing world. Our focus is on nurturing lifelong learners who are prepared to make a positive impact wherever their journey takes them.

How do the different tracks impact university outcomes?

Whichever pathway students choose, both open doors to outstanding university opportunities around the world. The IB Diploma is valued by international universities for its academic rigor and research focus, while AP courses are recognized by universities in the U.S. and Canada for college credit. Each year, our graduates receive more than 400 offers from leading institutions in over 15 countries, a testament to the strength of our programs and the support our students receive throughout their educational journey.
