Grade 11 & 12 Programs Overview
Grade 11 & Grade 12 Overview
In Grades 11 and 12, ISKL offers opt-in programs for students to help them reach their aspirations. Regardless of which opt-in program students chooses, all students at the end of Grade 12 who meet the ISKL graduation requirements will receive an ISKL Diploma.
Any student entering Grade 11 may opt-in to either the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) and the ISKL Pursuits Program. Each provides a comprehensive, relevant and challenging program of study, tailored to individual goals and talents.
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
Authorized to run the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) in 1989, ISKL is the longest-running IB World School in Malaysia
The IB DP is a cornerstone of the academic experience at ISKL, providing a challenging two-year pre-university curriculum that leads to a qualification recognized by the world’s leading universities.
To earn the IB Diploma, students are required to study six subjects (three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level) and complete the DP Core, which broadens the students’ educational experience and provides opportunities for them to apply their knowledge and develop necessary skills.
The DP Core comprises three required components:
- Theory of knowledge: Students reflect on the nature of knowledge
- Extended essay: An independent, self-directed piece of research, finishing with a 4,000-word paper
- Creativity, activity, service: Students complete a project related to those three concepts
IB students are constantly absorbed in authentic and challenging academic work, including historical investigations, mathematical explorations, fieldwork, economic commentaries, world language, and theater research. Such learning cannot be done by memorizing facts and figures. It is accomplished by being curious and taking intellectual risks, the hallmarks of a 21st-century education.

Hear it from our Pursuits Students and Teachers
ISKL is working to create a range of programs with enough flexibility to cater to the needs and interests of ALL students.
Jeff Farrington, High School Principal
Bringing community mentorship, network building, practical experience and critical reflection to an individualized program of study, Pursuits gives ISKL students the opportunity to extend their learning and skill set beyond the classroom experience.
Dan Miles, Pursuits Coordinator
I am so glad that I chose Pursuits because I've had the option to focus on something that I care about and really want to learn and understand. Pursuits is much more dynamic, and you have to be more organized to be able to know what you're doing every day. It's an independent program. You have to be on top of yourself if you want to get somewhere and learn.
Evelynn, Pursuits Student
I was able to take the Pursuits class because I can do something that I'm passionate about other than taking classes that I wouldn't want to take. I took Pursuits so I could take more visual arts classes and do more stuff that I found fun personally without being held back by all the IB requirements.

Notes:
-
Courses and units may be subject to change and depend on the dynamic nature of learning as well as student demand and/or grade level needs.
-
For a course to run in High School, ISKL must be in a position to provide a qualified instructor, and there must be a sufficient number of interested students. The same is valid for World Language courses.
-
World Language courses are based on language proficiency and may vary based on the student’s language level in either Spanish or Chinese.
