Grade 11 & 12 Programs Overview
Grade 11 & Grade 12 Overview
Students entering Grade 11 can choose from three pathways: the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, ISKL's Pursuits Program, or High School Diploma.
Each two-year pathway offers a comprehensive, relevant, and challenging course of study tailored to individual interests, strengths, and goals.
Providing access to three distinct pathways ensures flexibility for every learner and prepares students for a wide range of post-secondary opportunities worldwide, while fostering independence, critical thinking, and the confidence to pursue their aspirations beyond ISKL.
All students who meet ISKL’s graduation requirements earn an ISKL Diploma, equivalent to a U.S. High School Diploma, including those completing the IB Diploma or Pursuits Program.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) is a rigorous two-year pre-university curriculum. Authorized to offer the IB Diploma in 1989, ISKL is the longest-running IB World School in Malaysia, giving students the advantage of decades of experience and a strong record of success.
To earn the IB Diploma, students are required to study six subjects (three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level) and complete the DP Core, which broadens the students’ educational experience and provides opportunities for them to apply their knowledge and develop necessary skills.
The DP Core comprises three required components:
- Theory of knowledge: Students explore how knowledge is constructed and understood.
- Extended essay: An independent, self-directed piece of research, finishing with a 4,000-word paper
- Creativity, activity, service: Experiences outside the classroom to promote personal growth.
IB Diploma Programme students are immersed every day in authentic, challenging academic work. Depending on their subject choices, they might carry out historical investigations, mathematical explorations, scientific fieldwork, economic commentaries, or theatre research. Their learning is rooted in inquiry and real application, not rote recall. Students build understanding by asking questions, making connections across ideas, and reflecting on evidence. They develop the habits described in the IB learner profile, especially being inquirers and intellectual risk takers, as they test ideas, learn from mistakes, and grow in confidence. These are the skills and attitudes that prepare young people to thrive in a complex, fast changing world.

Pursuits Program

ISKL’s innovative Pursuits Program is a two-year course for Grade 11 and 12 students who want to gain recognition for a targeted area of study, as well as for students who would like to sample a career-related field of study.
Designed to inspire curiosity, independence, and purpose, it encourages students to take ownership of their learning and develop practical skills for future success.
Students create a personalized program by combining IB, Advanced Placement, Global Online Academy, and High School Diploma courses. Each student selects their Area of Distinction from a range of specializations supported by related courses. They develop deep knowledge through research projects and real-world experiences that connect learning with practical application, providing opportunities for internships, service, and on-campus placements that extend learning beyond the classroom and foster meaningful personal growth.
Pursuits fosters self-directed learning, collaboration, and critical thinking, encouraging students to explore their interests and career aspirations while developing independence, confidence, and a sense of global citizenship.
Why take Pursuits?
- Develop skills in analysis, communication, and teamwork
- Expand one’s critical decision-making skills
- Opportunities to personalize, specialize, and create a tailored curriculum
- Opportunities for real-world and hands-on experiences
- Access to industry experience with internships
The Pursuits program is filled with career-ready prospects, with a work placement program, internship opportunities, and chances to beef up a student’s CV.

Hear it from our Pursuits Students and Teachers

ISKL is working to create a range of programs with enough flexibility to cater to the needs and interests of ALL students.
Jeff Farrington, High School Principal

Bringing community mentorship, network building, practical experience and critical reflection to an individualized program of study, Pursuits gives ISKL students the opportunity to extend their learning and skill set beyond the classroom experience.
Dan Miles, Pursuits Coordinator

I am so glad that I chose Pursuits because I've had the option to focus on something that I care about and really want to learn and understand. Pursuits is much more dynamic, and you have to be more organized to be able to know what you're doing every day. It's an independent program. You have to be on top of yourself if you want to get somewhere and learn.
Evelynn, Pursuits Student

I was able to take the Pursuits class because I can do something that I'm passionate about other than taking classes that I wouldn't want to take. I took Pursuits so I could take more visual arts classes and do more stuff that I found fun personally without being held back by all the IB requirements.
Sarah, Pursuits Student
ISKL Diploma

-
Courses and units may be subject to change and depend on the dynamic nature of learning as well as student demand and/or grade level needs.
-
For a course to run in High School, ISKL must be in a position to provide a qualified instructor, and there must be a sufficient number of interested students. The same is valid for World Language courses.
-
World Language courses are based on language proficiency and may vary based on the student’s language level in either Spanish or Chinese.
