In April, The International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) welcomed two exceptional young Malaysians into its community at the annual Pathways Scholarship Award Ceremony. Ruplynn K. and Clarice C. were named the 2026–2027 ISKL Pathways Scholarship recipients, beginning the next chapter of their educational journey at ISKL at the start of the academic year in August 2026.

The ISKL Pathways Scholarship is a merit- and needs-based program that provides two Malaysian students who have completed Form 3 with a fully funded four-year education from Grade 9 through Grade 12. Each year, the scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate academic excellence alongside leadership, character, and a strong commitment to their communities.

Ruplynn, a student at SMK (P) Sri Aman in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, and Clarice who attends SMK (P) Pudu in Kuala Lumpur, may come from different schools and experiences, yet both share a passion for learning and willingness to embrace opportunities beyond the classroom.

The ceremony welcomed Puan Siti Bahijah binti Bakhtiar, Deputy Director, Ministry of Education’s Private Education Division and senior officials from the Ministry of Education, Putrajaya, alongside representatives from the Kuala Lumpur District Education Department. Addressing the new scholars, Puan Siti Bahijah shared:

“I warmly congratulate you both. I have every confidence that you will make the most of the opportunities before you and excel in all your endeavours. As you begin your journey in this international environment, I am certain that you will serve as exemplary ambassadors for Malaysia”

She also spoke to the significance of the program itself:

"On behalf of the Ministry of Education, I extend our sincere appreciation to ISKL for establishing this invaluable program and for the exceptional opportunities it provides."

This year’s ceremony carried special significance for the Pathways Scholarship Program. ISKL’s Head of School Mr. Rami Madani noted that 2026 marks an important milestone:

"This is the fifth cohort of the Pathways Scholarship Program, which began in 2022. With their selection, Ruplynn and Clarice become our ninth and tenth scholarship recipients."

This year will also see the first Pathways Scholars graduate from ISKL, marking an important moment in the growth of a program created to expand opportunities for talented Malaysian students.

Reflecting on what stood out about this year’s recipients, Mr. Madani shared: "It is never an easy task for our interview panel, and this year’s recipients truly stood out through the breadth of their interests and their strong engagement in their communities. Beyond their academic achievements, what most impressed the panel was their high expectations of themselves, as well as their genuine desire to make a positive difference for themselves, for others, and for the world around them."

The Pathways Scholarship selection process is intentionally rigorous. Candidates are assessed not only on academic achievement, but also on their initiative, leadership, community engagement, and alignment with ISKL’s School-wide Learning Results, which encourage students to think creatively, communicate effectively, and live ethically. Fluency in at least two languages is also required.

Following the ceremony, scholars past and present, their families, school representatives, and guests gathered for a reception filled with welcome, encouragement, and shared experiences. It was a warm and personal moment that reflected the supportive community Ruplynn and Clarice will be joining.
