iFest 2025: A Celebration of Culture, Community, and Panther Spirit
On April 12, ISKL hosted one of its most beloved traditions - iFest. Since its inception in 1970, this annual community-wide celebration has been a vibrant expression of ISKL’s international-mindedness and inclusive spirit. With students and families representing more than 70 nationalities, iFest showcases the rich cultural tapestry that defines ISKL.
From the International Flag Parade to a global showcase of food, music, and performances, iFest captures the spirit of our diverse and connected community. As Head of School Rami Madani shared, “iFest is a beautiful reflection of the diverse community that makes ISKL so unique. It truly embodies the spirit that defines our school. A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful PTA and all the volunteers whose dedication and hard work made this event possible.”
Organized each year by ISKL’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) iFest Committee and powered by the amazing efforts of a large team of tireless parent volunteers, the event is a testament to ISKL’s dynamic and inclusive community. Led this year by iFest Chair Juliana Bordiao and a team of dedicated iFest leaders, the day was filled with live music, cultural performances, hands-on activities, and a diverse array of cuisine from around the world.
Juliana reflected on the broader impact of iFest: “One of the most meaningful aspects was seeing our community learn more about different cultures and embrace our differences. Events like these open our minds and shape how we perceive the world and treat one another.”
Fabulous Food!
At the MS/HS cafeteria, the much-anticipated parent-run food stalls drew in crowds with the promise of authentic international flavors. Representing more than 30 different countries, the stalls were lovingly set up and decorated the night before by dedicated parent volunteers, who then returned to serve a wonderful selection of global cuisines. It was a joy to see students, parents, and employees alike coming together to enjoy the food and celebrate the rich cultural diversity that makes ISKL so special.
Engaging Activities for All
One of the special things about iFest is that it truly offers something for everyone with a wide range of activities designed to entertain all ages. The Summer at ISKL team teamed up with one of ISKL’s Summer Program providers, Camp Beaumont, to run action-packed experiences ranging from archery to parkour games. Parents and caregivers also had the opportunity to learn more about the wide range of holiday programs available at ISKL during school breaks, which are open to ISKL and non-ISKL community members alike.
At the Community Partners Market, a mix of ISKL’s Service Learning partners, including The Chin Women’s Organization, Greater Action, and other local NGOs, showcased traditional items, handcrafted goods, and cultural artifacts. Beyond creating a vibrant and diverse marketplace, the event highlighted the meaningful partnerships ISKL shares with these community-focused organizations. These collaborations provide students with hands-on Service Learning experiences that nurture empathy, leadership, and global citizenship, while ISKL’s ongoing support helps sustain the impactful work of these partners through fundraising, volunteering, and awareness initiatives.
Learning Through Cultural Expression
Hands-on cultural activities were spread throughout the campus, allowing guests to experience global traditions firsthand. Attendees explored batik painting, created pewter dishes, practiced calligraphy, had their names written on bookmarks, and participated in traditional games and henna painting. These activities provided a meaningful, interactive way to learn about different cultures and celebrate our community’s diversity.
Honoring 60 Years of ISKL
This year’s iFest was extra special as it coincided with ISKL’s 60th anniversary celebrations. Two creative installations added to the festive spirit:
- “I Suka KL” Art Installation: This interactive artwork invited students, parents, and visitors to express what they love about ISKL and Kuala Lumpur. Four oversized letters spelling “I S K L” were decorated throughout the festival with heartfelt messages, drawings, and stickers, each a small tribute to the people and experiences that make ISKL special.
- “Semua Can” Jigsaw Puzzle by APOM: A large-scale community puzzle challenged participants to work together to complete a bold, colorful artwork representing unity, perseverance, and collective achievement. It was a fun yet meaningful reminder of what can be accomplished when everyone contributes.
In addition, a special highlight was the intricate hand-sewn 60th Anniversary Quilts, a collaborative effort by ISKL parents and alumni. The quilts were part of a silent auction, allowing the community to own a piece of ISKL’s legacy.
A True Reflection of ISKL’s Values
Throughout the day, iFest reflected the spirit of the ISKL community, one that embraces diversity, encourages cross-cultural connections, and celebrates the unique contributions of every individual.
Juliana reflected on one of her favorite parts of the day: “The colorful array of food stalls and community baskets was truly a highlight. Each was thoughtfully curated to showcase its country’s identity and traditions. Together, they created a meaningful and memorable way for our community to celebrate the richness of cultures from around the world.”
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made iFest 2025 an extraordinary success, from our tireless PTA volunteers and talented performers to the students, parents, and community partners who brought their energy, creativity, and enthusiasm to the event. iFest reminds us that when we come together in celebration, we also deepen our understanding, build connections, and strengthen the spirit that makes ISKL such a special place.
