Shortlisted IS Awards 2023Earlier this week we were delighted to receive the fantastic news that ISKL has been shortlisted in the International School Awards 2023 in the category, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice. ISKL was one of three schools shortlisted from a “considerable volume of exceptionally high-quality applications” from international schools around the world and are proud to see our school again recognized by such an impressive and diverse panel of judges. The winner will be announced in January 2023.

The nomination is for the VOX ISKL, the online platform we created for external guest speakers to share their perspectives and effect change by stimulating learning, reflection, and conversations around DEIJ. The sessions also included panelists comprising ISKL students, faculty, and staff and were attended by parents and educators from all over the world. My thanks to those involved in this important work; we are looking forward to sharing details about the next VOX ISKL scheduled for later this semester. If you missed it the first time around or would like to re-watch, you will find the series on ISKL’s YouTube channel.

The importance of our commitment to DEIJ is reflected in each of our strategic objectives and VOX ISKL is one facet of our school’s systemic efforts to reflect and create change. This commitment extends to all our employees and community members as well as our students. Work is ongoing through school-wide committees comprising diverse representatives with DEIJ action plans developed to embed and deepen DEIJ into understanding and practices in our curriculum, community, and culture as part of our strategic focus over the next four years.

One person who has been an integral part of our community and culture over the past few years is outgoing PTA Co-President, Tracy Caton. We have been so fortunate to have benefited from Tracy’s leadership, wise counsel, and collaborative approach especially during the challenging times caused by Covid. While we will miss Tracy in her role as Co-President, we are so happy that she has joined our community as an ES teacher. We are also delighted that Alex Chan, PTA Co-President, has taken over the role as PTA President. We are looking forward to her leadership and the line-up of community-building events that the PTA Executive has in store for us this year. Thank you, Tracy and Alex for embodying Panther spirit!
