Futures Thinking at ISKL

Leading schools focus on the NOW and on the FUTURE in times of uncertainties. No focus should be on one at the expense of the other. As a school, we focus on specific timeframes to fulfill our Vision and Mission.  We plan how we will support our students, advance their learning, and as a forward-thinking school, we also set our sights on the future your children will experience. Our role as educators is to prepare your children for their future, whether, like our Seniors, they will be graduating next year, or our Prep Reception students who will graduate in 2035.

To help guide our thinking and action, we use a four-year strategic planning process, and this year we are embarking on planning for ISKL’s 2021-2024 Strategic Plan. To do this we are exploring the future – looking at the drivers of change, technological transformation, societal shifts that will impact education, and important issues such as diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice. We will consider the skills our students will need to flourish in a future of unknown possibilities and how we will prepare them for what’s next while staying grounded in the timeless and essential skills embodied by our School-wide Learning Results (SLRs). Our Strategic Plan is not only about what we want to do and achieve as a school, but also about who we want to be, how we will lead the way, and about being THE school that can do that.

Our strategic planning process is grounded in research and puts the perspectives of our community – students, parents, faculty, and staff at the center of all we do. Over the next six months, we will be creating opportunities to listen to the perspectives of our community. To help shape ISKL’s future we want to hear your voice and encourage you to join us for the next Head of School & Parents In Partnership session on November 18, where in addition to talking about how ISKL uses data to support learning, growth, and improvement, we will also be seeking your input on ISKL’s vision for the future. Details about how to join the session are shown below and all parents are very much encouraged to attend.

As part of our focus on the future, we are running a series of three Future-Ready events for both ISKL families and the wider community. The first in the series, Future-Ready Pathways in High School, is being held online on November 25 and in addition to speakers from ISKL, will also include representatives from the International Baccalaureate Organization and the university guidance platform, Cialfo. More details will be shared in Panther News next week.

In partnership,
