Exploring Identity Through Change: A New Addition to ISKL's Inspiration Art Collection

Art has the power to capture moments of growth, reflection, and discovery. At ISKL, the Inspiration Art Collection preserves these moments, creating a lasting record of the ideas, perspectives, and experiences that shape each graduating class.

Located in the Admissions Office lobby, the collection features a single work selected annually from the Grade 12 International Baccalaureate (IB) Visual Arts cohort. Since its inception in 2018, the collection has grown into a unique visual timeline of student creativity, with each piece reflecting the questions, influences, and personal journeys of its creator.

Supported through ISKL's Inspire Campaign, the collection celebrates the role of the arts in fostering curiosity, self-expression, and meaningful dialogue. Together, the artworks offer visitors an opportunity to engage with the diverse voices and experiences that make up the ISKL community.

This year's addition, Cycle of Magpie and Crow by Rita (Seo-Woo) L. ‘26, explores the balance between change and continuity. Drawing inspiration from the dynamic forms and movement found in the work of Sybil Andrews, Rita uses the symbolism of the magpie and crow to examine how identity evolves across different environments and cultural contexts. Through layered textures, shifting colors, and repeated forms, the artwork reflects the ways people adapt while remaining connected to a consistent sense of self.

As the newest piece in the Inspiration Art Collection, Cycle of Magpie and Crow adds another perspective to the growing story of ISKL's student artists and the ideas that inspire them.
