Life-Centered Education Program

The Life-Centered Education (LCE) program is designed to meet the needs of students who have diagnosed intellectual or developmental differences and require individualized academic and social skill instruction. Students accepted into the program receive customized instruction and support from highly trained special educators and assistant teachers. The LCE program focuses on teaching literacy, mathematics, social skills, and life skills to students with intensive special education needs. Additionally, students are integrated into our school elective classes and optional after-school activities.

LCE’s intentional approach with student independence and self-advocacy is at the heart of the program, preparing students for the future. In LCE classrooms, students are provided with direct intervention in their personal areas of need including reading comprehension, writing, social skills, and independent living skills.

In addition to physical therapy and multi-sensory rooms, LCE includes living spaces, kitchen and other practical learning environments where students can develop and practice independent living and social skills. These are then reinforced daily through lessons and practical application.

In 2019, ISKL won the prestigious International School Leader Awards in the category Initiative for Inclusion for its LCE program. The Awards were hosted by the UK’s International School Leader Magazine with the support of ISC Research and included nominations from schools in 38 different countries.
