Panthers Of ISKL #37 - Izzy S. - The Artist
This week we met up with fifth-grade student Isabelle S. ('28), aka Izzy, who joined ISKL earlier this year right before the Movement Control Order, but thankfully so far, she is happy to have had the chance to make new friends in person!
Here is her story.
Tell us about your future job. What do you want to be when you grow up?
When I grow up, I want to be an artist because I want to express myself in Art and share it with others.
I can't leave white spaces blank and stop myself from filling them with small drawings with my pencils. I love to see my sister's big smile when I draw something for her. Just like my sister, I love to give big smiles to everyone!
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
I want to have a superpower so that I can fly, so I can see the birds, touch the clouds, and have different views from different places where no one can go. I can also go to places much faster since I don't have to stay in cars and face traffic.
What do you like most about ISKL?
Before I came to ISKL, I was attending a much smaller international school in Japan. So one thing I like the most about ISKL is that the school is BIG. There are lots of friends and many different classrooms where I can visit, play and work in. I am sure there are places that I have yet to see in school and will visit all of them very soon!
How fast did you learn the Melawati Way? How do you practice it at home?
Learning the Melawati Way was a new learning for me at ISKL. ISKL's codes of behavior are easy to understand but important to remember. I learned it quickly because the teachers explained them well when I first started classes.
The values that I practice at home are – Take Care of Yourself by not running around at home so that I don't fall and hurt myself, Take Care of Others by sharing my stuff and offering my help when my parents and sister need help and Take Care of This Place by trying to keeping my room clean and tidy.
What is your favorite SLR (Schoolwide Learning Result), and why?
My favorite Schoolwide Learning Result (SLR) is to Communicate Effectively. It helps not to have any misunderstanding when everyone listens to each other and shows respect for each other's opinions. We meet lots of friends and teachers in school, and it's important how you can effectively talk about your views, hear different ideas, and make changes.
What is your favorite subject?
My favorite subject is Art because I like drawing and making things with my hands. In Art class, we are working on this new project with wires and plasters to make a doll. I can't wait to finish and have my doll and show it to my friends.
Where is your favorite place to hang out on campus?
My favorite place to hang out at school is the library. It's quiet, you can focus on what you want to do by yourself, and people will not disturb you. I also like lots of books that I can read and borrow in the library.
What are your hobbies and interests? What do you love doing after school?
My hobbies are drawing, singing and sometimes reading. I love to play musical instruments like piano and guitar, and I recently started to practice the violin that I brought home from school. I draw almost every day on my iPad, sketchbook, on things that pop up in my mind.
If you could be any character from a movie/book, who would it be, and why?
I would be Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz because she gets to go to this new world, visit the emerald castle, make new friends, and talk to talking animals. Imagine if you could talk to animals and understand each other! It would be so much fun!
What is your favorite moment of the day?
My favorite moment of the day is snack recess time. My friends and I, with the teachers, get to make up the recess room, which is located at the end of the Grade 5 hallway. We get to move furniture and decorate the classroom, making it comfortable and easy for different people to use.
What does "Be All You Are" mean to you?
I think it means to be yourself. You don't have to lie or pretend so that everyone will like you. You can be anything you want, and you can do anything you like. People won't judge you - so be yourself!
