The ISKL Advancement office is recruiting for a versatile copywriter and storyteller to create content for internal and external communication channels in support of student engagement and success. The role is embedded within a busy Marketing and Communications/Development and Alumni Engagement Departments and we are looking for a team player with a collaborative approach to their work.

The successful candidate will be responsible for researching, writing, and editing online and print collateral across a range of specialized educational channels. This is a 6 months contract role, *if the candidate meets the expectation of advancement office, there is an opportunity to be a full-time ISKL staff. This is a contract base position, the candidate needs to legally be allowed to work in Malaysia.

Job Title: Elementary School World Language Team Assistant

The job holder will be expected to provide administrative support to the elementary school world language teachers and ensure that the World Language department is functioning efficiently. See full job description.
 
Key Responsibilities:

Preparation & Planning

  • Deliver messages and letters to classrooms and to the office.
  • Prepare teaching materials carefully following teacher’s samples and instructions.
  • Photocopy, collate staple, bind, laminate and scan materials for teachers. Check work against samples for accuracy before returning to classroom teachers.
  • Assist teachers with all paperwork organization and filing
  • Organize and maintain an inventory of student supplies
  • Prepare bulletin boards with borders, title lettering, etc
  • Take responsibility for putting up and taking down seasonal displays at the approximate times.
  • Store display items in clearly labeled boxes ready for use when needed.
  • Check local and overseas orders as they received the invoice list.
  • Assist WL teachers with processing of purchase orders using Sage system
  • Assist teachers with classroom set-up and pack-up at the beginning and end of the year
  • Communicate with cleaners and maintenance staff and necessary
  • Self generate a calendar of “to-do” organizational systems are sustained.
  • Carry out any duties as assigned by the Team Leader or Teacher in the team from time to time

Supervision

  • Supervise students in the canteen and playground, maintaining safety and discipline
  • Supervise students moving in an orderly line through the school during transitions
  • Guide students to be responsible for their own belongings,to avoid loss.
  • Supervise students who go home by car while waiting in the canteen
  • Supervise students after activities.
  • Language Learning Support
  • Knowledge of supporting students in learning target language vocabulary, grammar, etc.
  • Support teacher in developing reading, writing, listening and speaking in another language
  • Work with small groups or individual students with their language learning
  • Use technology to support language acquisition (i.e recordings, posting to blogs, etc.) for students and/or in teacher productivity in lesson planning

 Skills and Experience

  • Diploma/Degree in Education or Languages or its equivalent
  • Experience working with elementary school students grades Prep Senior through grade 5
  • Experience with language learning and acquisition
  • Knowledge of Chinese and/or Spanish or an additional language is preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong organization, communication, and digital and literacy skills
  • Google Apps, Adobe Photoshop,  Illustrator, and Powerpoint skills are preferred.
  • Self-starter with initiative to support young language learners
  • Experience working with special education students a plus

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Greet and interact with campus store customers. Answer questions, recommend products, place orders and search inventory to meet customer needs.
  • Answer general questions about ISKL and its campus to parents and visitors in an enthusiastic, welcoming manner.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of different merchandise available and pricing. Generate ideas for marketing promotions and merchandise targeting specific community events and groups.
  • Arrange merchandise and assist in setting up displays and signs. Stock and restock merchandise on shelves and hangers. Rotate stock as required.
  • Manage stock levels and reorder when necessary. Initiate procurement of uniforms.
  • Follow up purchases with vendors
  • Assist with unloading of deliveries and check accuracy as required.
  • Liaise with PTA Booster Team members regarding Spirit Wear orders, merchandise, stock levels, deliveries, returns, and customer feedback.
  • Help generate ideas for new products and seek out new vendors/suppliers.
  • Interact with and guide parent volunteers who assist at the Hut during busy times of day and for special events.
  • Keep storerooms tidy and organized, and initiate maintenance of facility when required.
  • Operate register and balance cash drawer at the end of business day.

Skills/Qualifications

  • Strong English communication skills as required to interact with a diverse, global community.
  • Prior retail and/or customer service experience highly desired.
  • Outstanding customer service skills to match customers to products and meet their needs.
  • Cheerful and helpful disposition when dealing with the school community.
  • Prompt, reliable and honest. Good organizational skills. Basic math and computer skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • High energy, friendly personality with the ability to see a need and find a creative way to fill it.
  • E-commerce experience is a plus as we look to expand our offerings.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
  • Frequent movement around the store to access various products and customers.
  • Occasional lifting, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or climbing ladders.
  • Frequent movement around campus to access various departments.
