APOM x ISKL: Celebrating 60 Years of ISKL

The International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) is excited to commemorate its 60th anniversary with a special collaboration with local lifestyle brand APOM (A Piece of Malaysia). This partnership celebrates ISKL’s deep appreciation for its host country, honoring Malaysia’s vibrant culture while reflecting the diverse spirit of its international community through a thoughtfully curated merchandise collection.

As ISKL marks 60 years of nurturing lifelong learners since its inception in 1965, it has evolved from its humble beginnings in Jalan Maxwell to a state-of-the-art campus set on 25 acres in Ampang Hilir. Yet, the sense of belonging that makes ISKL home for its students remains unchanged. This deep connection to its people and surroundings makes ISKL’s collaboration with APOM meaningful, as both celebrate identity, culture, and community.

The APOM x ISKL collaboration showcases an exciting range of merchandise exclusively designed for ISKL’s community. From everyday tote bags to fun tumblers and beach towels, the collection infuses playful Malaysian expressions with heart, humor, and Panther Pride:

Collection 1 (Tote bags): The Best of ISKL and Malaysia

• Budak ISKL (ISKL Kid) – A tribute to the ISKL experience through the eyes of an ISKL student, highlighting values such as friendship, collaboration, school spirit, and lasting memories.
• I Suka Kuala Lumpur (I Love Kuala Lumpur) – Featuring iconic Kuala Lumpur elements like the Twin Towers, KL Tower, and the Bunga Raya (Malaysia's national flower), this design also reflects ISKL’s state-of-the-art campus in the heart of the city.
• Goreng Strong Since 1965 – A witty Malaysian twist on “Going Strong Since 1965,” symbolizing ISKL’s legacy with its beloved Panther mascot.

• Most Onz Panther – "Onz" embodies the spirit of perseverance, echoing ISKL’s commitment to resilience, determination, and unwavering dedication to achieving goals.
• Most PAWEsome Panther – A take on ISKL’s play on “awesome,” celebrating the commitment to be a positive contributor to the ISKL community and the world.
• Most Baik Panther – "Baik" represents kindness, mirroring ISKL’s values of empathy and care.
• Most Fuyoh Panther – "Fuyoh" means amazing, a fitting tribute to the Panther spirit.

Collection 3 (Beach Towels): Find Yourself at ISKL, Lah!

• Lepak ISKL Lah (Hang Out at ISKL) – Encouraging students to enjoy every moment of the ISKL experience.
• ISKL Power Lah (ISKL Power) – Representing the strength of ISKL’s community.

A Celebration of Community and Culture

“Our collaboration with Malaysia’s fun and creative APOM brand is a testament to ISKL’s deep connection with our host country, Malaysia, and what it means to be an ISKL Panther,” said ISKL’s Head of School, Rami Madani. “Each design tells a story of who we are – a dynamic and inclusive community that continues to grow and inspire. It’s also a great opportunity to celebrate Malaysian expressions, with an ISKL twist, and share them with the 70-plus nationalities represented at our school.”

It was a fun and collaborative process where the ISKL team was clear about wanting to infuse true Malaysian-ness into the collection. Together, we celebrated local slang, culture, and identity through merchandise that we hope will spark nostalgia for some and curiosity for others, creating a lasting connection to Malaysia’s rich heritage.”

ISKL alumni Rika Singh (‘24) reflects on the enduring sense of belonging that ISKL provides. She shares, "The countless memories, laughs, tears, and growth that this place has fostered will always insulate the walls of the home in our hearts. This home will always greet us with love, with sunshine, and with life."

This collaboration is more than just a collection - it’s a piece of home, a love letter from ISKL and Malaysia, and a reminder that no matter how far you go, the connections, traditions, and cultural richness of this home will always be a part of you.
