A Look Inside ISKL’s Open House Sessions for Parents

Open House Blog Thumb

ISKL’s inclusive and dynamic community underpins our school’s Mission and is an important component in making ISKL such a unique and special place. We often talk about how the engagement of our parents is fundamental to building a strong parent-school partnership and how, in turn, this has been proven to support student learning. ISKL’s Open House – the parent information sessions we hold at the start of each year – is a key way for parents and school to partner together. Designed to give parents a clear understanding of what to expect in the year ahead, the sessions help build the kind of partnership that makes such a difference to learning.

During our Open House sessions at the start of the 2025-2026 academic year, Head of School Rami Madani and divisional Principals set the scene by explaining the importance of ISKL’s Values and the impact that working in partnership has on student learning, engagement, and motivation. Parents then went on to meet their child’s teachers, visit their classrooms, and learn about the year’s objectives, expectations, and routines.

As always, there was high parent participation for each of the division’s Open Houses, reflecting the strong level of engagement that ISKL parents have in their children’s learning journeys and school life.

Elementary School: Foundation for Growth

For the parents of ISKL’s youngest students, the Elementary School Open House enabled them to meet with their child’s teachers, see firsthand where their children learn each day, and explore how ISKL’s Elementary team cultivates learning through play and helps students develop executive functioning skills and positive learning habits.

Elementary School parent Erik F. shared, “The Open House was a very valuable opportunity to get to know our child’s school environment as well as the underlying philosophies guiding teaching.” This includes curriculum expectations, how inquiry-based learning takes place in the classroom, and the measures in place to ensure every child is supported.

Middle School: Navigating the Path to Independence

At the Middle School Open House, parents met with their child’s teachers to explore the curriculum, understand how student agency and independence are fostered, and learn about the support systems in place.

Phei Shie C., a parent of a Middle School student, said, "If you look at the philosophy at ISKL, it has always been a school that works closely with the parents. I believe that parental involvement is very important. It’s nice because each time you walk into the school, you always feel welcome - it’s like a second home."

Our community came together to discover the vibrant learning journey in Middle School.

Great connections made at our Middle School Open House! It was fantastic to see families exploring the campus and learning more about how we foster independence and growth in our students.

High School: Developing Future-Readiness

Annette H., a parent of a High School student, found the HS Open House, "A great way to have a glimpse into our child’s daily lives and get to know the teachers and parents.”

In addition to sharing academic objectives, details about the classroom learning environment, and available support services, parents attending the High School Open House also learned how ISKL prepares students for life after graduation. The event included a presentation on the IB and AP results for the Class of 2025, as well as information about the universities and countries graduates are attending.

These start-of-year Open House sessions are not only a great way to share understanding and expectations for the year ahead, but they are also a wonderful reminder of the positive outcomes that occur when school and parents work in partnership to support student learning and engagement.
