All Modern Language classes are yearlong courses. All levels address elements of culture, geography and history. Students will be expected to compare, contrast and consider their perceptions and misconceptions of the culture studied.
This course highlights basic written and oral communication skills. There is an emphasis on building vocabulary and developing fluency in listening and speaking. Reading and writing are also stressed as students gain competence. Students who successfully meet the standards for this course will be eligible to enroll in MS INTERMEDIATE.
This course continues to highlight oral communication skills improving pronunciation, intonation and automaticity. Students will work with a variety of text types to increase vocabulary and expand reading comprehension skills. Students will become increasingly aware of the grammatical aspects of the language and will be expected to demonstrate this in writing and in oral communication. Students who succesfully meet the standards for this course will be eligible to enroll in MS ADVANCED.
This is an accelerated course designed to incorporate the skills and content of MS ADVANCED in a single year. Students opting for this course need to be highly motivated and organized to work at a rapid pace. Students must be willing to take risks in communicating in the target language. Students who successfully meet the standards for this course will be eligible to enroll in HS Level Two.
As students enter the ADVANCED level, basic oral communication skills are expected to be in place. Students speak using familiar vocabulary in rehearsed circumstances. Students will move into a more creative manipulation of the target language in the areas of speaking and writing. Students will become increasingly accountable to use accurate grammar, syntax and a broader vocabulary. Students who successfully meet the standards for this course will be eligible to enroll in HS LEVEL TWO.
