Welcome to the 2009 publication of the Melawati Young Writers. This publication contains a collection of selected ISKL Melawati students’ stories gathered throughout the school year. It was created and collated with the help of a very dedicated group of parents.
What a pleasure it is to have children publish their writing. This publication provides a much more extensive audience for children’s stories. It changes the purpose for writing, because they now have the opportunity to express their thoughts, knowing they will have an impact on someone. As adults we write for specific audiences and specific purposes. Children sometimes are not given that option and their writing is read only by their teacher, by parents, and maybe a peer. Although they are often asked to write for specific purposes, the writing is rarely published, so they do not have the opportunity to convince or persuade someone. This is that opportunity.
We encourage you to read the stories and hope that you enjoy them as much as we enjoyed putting this publication together.
