ISKL provides a variety of student services designed to enhance the educational program and meet the individual educational needs of all students.
The Learning Resource program supports students in their content-area courses, providing students assistance with time management, work completion and organization. The Elementary and Middle Schools provide additional support in reading, writing and mathematics.
Enrichment opportunities address the needs of students with exceptional academic talents. Faculty members provide students with choices and opportunities for in-depth study in order to challenge and realize their highest potential. In the Middle and High Schools, students continue to tailor the intensity of their programs according to their talents and interests through a wide selection of course offerings.
The Elementary School speech-language specialist screens, evaluates and provides a continuum of services for students with speech, voice, fl uency and/or language needs. The specialist collaborates with other faculty members to assist students in becoming effective communicators.
English is the medium of instruction at ISKL. If a student is entering ISKL from a school where English is not the medium of instruction or if a student is not profi cient in English, they are tested and placed in an appropriate level of the EAL program. Enrollment in the EAL program is based on space availability. Students gaining English profi ciency receive EAL support as they move toward full inclusion in ISKL’s regular academic program. Periodic evaluations monitor progress to determine a student’s successful exit out of the EAL program.
School psychologists provide counseling and special needs assessment of students. Students with special academic or behavioral concerns are referred to a Student Resource Team for review. After consulting with teachers and parents, appropriate support is provided based on available resources.
Counselors provide academic guidance to help each student achieve maximum social, emotional and academic success. They assist families through a smooth transition into the ISKL community, and later assist the family in the transition to the their next location. College Placement High School counselors assist students in selecting university programs that meet their interests and abilities. Counselors routinely raise the profi le of the ISKL High School program with university outreach initiatives: visiting universities, staying current on international admissions policies and maintaining relationships with university admission representatives.
Workshops on the university selection process for various countries are given each year and comprehensive reference materials on universities, fi nancial aid and career choice are available for students and their families to review. Counselors provide support to students who are interested in taking American university entrance exams. SATs (formerly known as the Scholastic Aptitude Tests) are offered several times each year off-site and the American College Test (ACT) is offered twice a year on-campus.
There is a full-time nurse on duty in a well-equipped clinic on each campus to deal with emergencies, administer prescription medicine and treat minor ailments. Services are also available on-site during sporting events and after-school activities. ISKL health services also serve as a resource for health and lifestyle-related issues for students.
