For many years, the IB Diploma has been accepted for admission purposes. Except for Foundation Courses, in certain universities, a full Diploma (not a collection of Certificates) is required. Offer of admission to a certain department within the given university will be made conditional upon the student's results. Offers are based either on total points, on the results of the three subjects offered at Higher Level.
The IB Diploma is accepted by all European countries for entrance into their nation national universities. Some countries require that all exams be taken in the Diploma year (Germany). Particular mark and subject requirements exists for different university systems and university departments. This information should be obtained directly from the relevant Education Ministry or university.
The IB Diploma is not required for university entrance in the US. However, most universities have developed IB policies, which include advanced placement, course credit and special consideration at the time of admission. In some cases, a full year of university credit is awarded to IB Diploma holders. Recognizing the high standards of the IB program, admissions officers look favorably on student enrollment in IB courses.
The IB Diploma is recognized throughout Canada as an admissions credential. Some of the most selective universities may require it for the admission of students who have been studying outside Canada. Many universities grant credit and / or advanced placement for students with higher level certificates. Entrance at second-year standing for Diploma holders is a possibility at some universities.
The IB diploma is recognized as an admissions credential. The Vice Chancellor offices have developed a scale of equivalency, which puts IB diploma holders in a very favorable position for gaining acceptance. Offers are based on total points plus results of selected higher level courses.
The IB Diploma is not required as an entrance qualification beyond the regular diploma awarded by ISKL. However, in the past, students have found that the additional work in English necessitated by the Diploma program has helped them in their university entrance exams and in demonstrating to universities their commitment to their studies.
