INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE (IB) DIPLOMA SCHOLARSHIP

The International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) has been running a highly successful IB Diploma program since 1991. In the 20 years ISKL has offered the IB program, exam scores have been excellent and the student pass rate has been over 95%.

The prestigious IB Diploma is sought after by the finest universities in Britain, Canada and the United States of America. Prestigious universities worldwide recognize the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. It is accepted as an entrance pre-requisite for higher degree programs in over 140 countries, including Malaysia. Students with strong IB examination results may also receive advance standing or course credit, depending upon the policy of the institution they are attending. Many have been awarded sizeable scholarships and grants.

Recognized as the leader in international education, the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma program fosters the knowledge, skills and attitudes that enable students to excel in university. In its mission statement, the International Baccalaureate Organization states that the IB was developed to assist schools to “develop the individual talents of young people and teach them to relate the experience of the classroom to the realities of the world outside.” The IBO understands that success in higher education and beyond involves thinking critically and creatively. The IB Diploma program’s challenging curriculum educates the whole student, developing the capacity for inquiry, research and problem-solving as well as essential skills for communication and collaboration.

Applicants will demonstrate that they have personal qualities that will allow them to thrive during the two-year course. The program will challenge students to develop their attitudes, skills, knowledge and understanding to become highly successful, spirited, socially responsible global citizens. During these two years, students will make friendships to last a lifetime, and will receive an education that will form a solid foundation for all future achievements

What is so special about the International Baccalaureate Diploma?

  • The IB Diploma is recognized around the world. It ensures an increased adaptability and mobility for IB students.
  • The curriculum and pedagogy of the IB program focuses on international perspectives of learning and teaching, while insisting that students fully explore their home culture and language.
  • Many students graduating from the IB Diploma program find that it enhances their opportunities at tertiary institutions. The International Baccalaureate Organization works closely with universities around the world to gain recognition for IB programs.
  • The core components of IB programs encourage students to participate in creative and service-oriented activities, while at the same time emphasizing the importance of reflection on a personal and academic level.
 
APPLICATION
Places will be offered as a result of a competitive process. Interested students should apply only if they meet the application criteria below.
 
APPLICATION CRITERIA:


1. Candidates must have excellent academic records in SPM. They should have not less than an A- in any of the individual subjects in SPM.

Interested applicants should submit the following documents:

  • Personal statement from applicant: a short essay about your future aspirations; why you are interested in this opportunity, what you feel you will get out of it and how your participation in the program benefit the wider community
  • Final term exam result
  • SPM result
  • Two teacher recommendations
  • Extra curricular involvement
  • Evidence of previous commitment to community service
  • ISKL Application for Admission form
  • Official copies of academic records (translated in English) from each school attended previously during the past three years (endorsed by the school)
  • Authorization to Release School Records form
  • A photocopy of the applicant’s Malaysian identity card
  • Two recent passport-sized color photographs of the applicant, with the applicant’s name written on the back

Application must be submitted in English fully complete with the above requirements. Application for 2012/2014 scholarship is now closed. Candidates deemed suitable will be asked to take a series of entrance tests in mathematics and English. Shortlisted candidates will then be invited for interview.

 
The Scholarship

The scholarship is equivalent to a two-year study of the International Baccalaureate Diploma program at The International School of Kuala Lumpur. The IB Scholarship Award covers the following costs:

  • Tuition
  • Application Fees
  • Registration
  • Land & Building Fund
  • IB exam
  • Books
  • Field trips that are included within the tuition fees (compulsory for the IB Program)
  • Busing will be provided if bus contractor currently covers the selected candidate's residential route.
