POS FAQ

What is the Swipe card/POS system?
The elementary school canteen and bookstore operate through a cashless swipe card system called Point of Sale (POS).  Students are issued a reusable swipe card (ID card) onto which money is credited. The card may then be used to purchase items from the cafeteria and the bookshop. Cash/checks are only used when the POS balance is topped up (money is credited to a child’s account).  The benefits of this system include:

  • Reduces the need for cash on campus.
  • Enables parents to track the type of food their children are purchasing.

What kinds of items are purchased from the book store?

  • Activity Fees
  • PTA Party Contribution
  • School Photos
  • Terry Fox T-Shirts
  • Scholastic Books

What are the items purchased from the canteen?

  • Snack & Lunch

How do I add credit/top up my child’s POS/Swipe card?
When an account needs to be topped up, checks or cash may be submitted in person to the reception desk in the Main Office at Melawati. The minimum amount accepted top up is RM150. (Please print student’s full name [as shown on passport] on the back of check.)

Are students able to run up debt on a POS/Swipe card?
No, the card is not a credit card and will register invalid unless sufficient funds are available to pay for goods.

How will I know if my child’s account is low on credit?
If a student’s account goes below RM50, the office will send home a reminder to top up the account. Please top up your child’s card as soon as possible after receiving notification.

Will my child be able to purchase food in the canteen if he/she has no money on his/her card?
Students who have no credit on their POS/Swipe cards will be issued an IOU for lunch. The office will notify the parent when this happens.  IOUs will be issued for a maximum of two (2) days in a row. The lunch(es) will be deducted from the student’s swipe card when it is topped up. IOUs are not issued for snack. Please remember to top up your child’s account regularly to avoid IOUs.

Can my child use his/her sibling’s POS/Swipe card?
We would prefer that a child not use their sibling’s card.

Do students carry the POS/Swipe card?
Students in Grade 3 to 5 carry their cards at all times. Cards are kept as a class set for students in Grades 1 and 2. Prep-Reception and  Prep Junior cards are kept in the office with Ms. Banu Kasinathan.

What if I have forgotten my username & password?
Contact Chandran via e-mail (chandran_karuppan@iskl.edu.my) to obtain your username & password.

What happens if the card is lost?
Students must report missing cards immediately to Ms. Banu.Kasinathan in the Main Office. As the value of the card is held on the computer network and not on the card itself it is possible to transfer money from one card to a new card and render the missing card invalid. Students who require new cards will be charged RM15 per card, the first card having been issued free. New cards take one (1) day to process. If the old card is found, please return it to the office.

How can I check what my child is eating?
You may access the Melawati POS Web via the internet once you have registered.   Please inform the school in writing if you do not wish to have your child consume canteen food or if your child has food allergies.
