Admissions Policies

Global Policy on Admissions
In line with the School's Constitutional mandate to serve primarily the children of expatriate families living in Malaysia (Art. III), the Board holds the Head of School accountable for maintaining a fair and transparent admissions system. In particular, the Head of School shall admit candidates who can benefit from and contribute to our Mission and the School's standards-based, university and college-preparatory curriculum delivered in the English language. Furthermore, the Head of School shall ensure that the rights of current students take precedent over those of candidates.

Membership in the ISKL Society
The Board holds the Head of School accountable for proposing to the Board for admission to the Society only those parents and/or guardians of candidates who have met all other admissions requirements as stipulated in these policies. The proposal shall be made and the decision communicated to the candidate's parents or guardian in a timely manner.

Entrance Criteria
The Board holds the Head of School accountable for defining the academic, physical, emotional, social and behavioral criteria candidates must meet for acceptance into the School. In particular, the Head of School shall only admit candidates if sufficient space and resources are available to meet their academic, physical, emotional, social and behavioral needs. The Head of School has the absolute right to refuse admission to any candidate, and there shall be no right to appeal to the Board.

At a minimum, the Head of School shall:

  • Define in writing the assessment criteria for admissions;
  • Ensure that each candidate is considered fairly and, when necessary, his/her needs assessed in the context of both the candidate's ability to progress within the standard curriculum, and the support services available within the School's approved budget at the candidate's grade level.

Priority of Admissions
The Board holds the Head of School accountable for accepting candidates in the priority listed below. All candidates must meet the admissions criteria stated above before they ill be considered in the priority system.
