STRATEGIC PLAN

The Core Planning Team for Strategic Planning reviewed and revised the Identity Statement, the Mission, the Vision for our Students, and the School-wide Learning Results.
What follows are the recommendations approved by the Board on May 20th, 2008.

IDENTITY STATEMENT
The International School of Kuala Lumpur is a non-profit, parent-owned and parent-governed school which offers an excellent education to students from pre-kindergarten to grade twelve.  ISKL is accredited in the United States through the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and internationally through the Council of International Schools (CIS).

MISSION
The International School of Kuala Lumpur provides an exceptional education that challenges each student to develop the attitudes, skills, knowledge and understanding to become a highly successful, spirited, socially responsible global citizen.

SCHOOL-WIDE LEARNING RESULTS (SLRs)

Think creatively
Creative thinkers are risk takers who provoke new ideas and enjoy the challenge of exploring a variety of possibilities through divergent approaches.

Reason critically
Those who reason critically continuously process and apply information from a variety of sources in a convergent fashion in order to develop, modify, reflect on, and evaluate viewpoints and conclusions.

Communicate effectively
Effective communicators actively listen, reflect and respect others’ ideas.  They know their audience, have clarity of purpose and are flexible and knowledgeable in their choice of media to enhance understanding.

Collaborate constructively
Constructive collaborators use communication skills and appropriate tools and norms; they maintain positive relationships, contribute and build upon others’ ideas and work toward achieving common goals.

Learn enthusiastically
Enthusiastic learners are self-motivated, intellectually curious, engaged, and persistent individuals who embrace challenges.

Live ethically
Socially and ethically responsible citizens actively care for and respect themselves, others, and the environment.

THE VISION FOR OUR STUDENTS
To walk in a harmonious environment where care follows closely behind; learning is stimulated, curiosity is sparked, vision is cultivated, and action is inspired.

CORE BELIEFS
We believe that:

  • All people have intrinsic worth
  • Individuals are both responsible and accountable for their choices
  • Open, honest and respectful communication is essential to mutual understanding
  • Diversity is a strength when people are committed to shared goals
  • Individual and cultural diversity enriches life
  • Learning is a life-long journey that is transformational
  • All people have the capacity to learn

DELIMITERS
We will not initiate any new program or service unless:

  • It contributes to our mission
  • It is preceded and accompanied by professional development
  • It is accompanied by the necessary communication
  • It is accompanied by a plan to assess its effectiveness
  • There are sufficient resources available to assure effective implementation

STRATEGIES
ISKL will create the means necessary to ensure that the ISKL community understands, supports, and contributes to the realization of the Mission, Vision for our Students and School-wide Learning Results (SLRs).

ISKL will commit to a focused approach that will ensure priorities are set and resources (people, time, money) are provided to reach the Mission, Vision for our Students and School-wide Learning Results (SLRs).
