The International School of Kuala Lumpur was established and opened classes in September 1965 for 48 students in the sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth grades. ISKL is a non-profit, parent-governed school. From 48 students, ISKL's student population has grown to 1,650 from 63 countries.
The original school was an old palace in the Kenny Hill area built in the 1920s by the Sultan of Selangor. When the Federal Government required the site, the society was given the lease of a 2.6ha parcel of land in Jalan Kerja Ayer Lama, Ampang Jaya by the Malaysian Government for 99 years. Operations at the new premises commenced in 1976 and in 1992, the Melawati campus was opened to accommodate the elementary school and the "old" Ampang campus became the home of the high school and middle school.
In March 1995, the high school occupied its new wing, which incorporated new classrooms, a writing lab, publications rooms and darkroom. The campuses offer facilities including air-conditioned classrooms, a technology centre, music and art rooms, theatres, science laboratories, libraries, sports fields, a swimming pool and gymnasium.
ISKL's academic programs encourage students to think creatively, reason critically, communicate effectively, collaborate constructively, learn enthusiastically and live ethically. It offers a high school diploma, the International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement programs.
ISKL students' academic results testify to its high academic standard. |
