Rotax Max Malaysia Go-Kart Championship Race in Sepang on 8th and 9th May.
Round 2 of the Malaysia Championship will take place this Saturday and Sunday
at the Sepang Kart Track. Rotax Max Championships are held all over the world
and the Champion of each Country participates in the World Finals during
November of each year. This year’s World Final is in Italy.
The Rotax Max concept where engines and tyres are regulated for keeping costs low,
has gained a strong momentum during the last years. Round 1 of the 2010 Championship has seen
more than 20 drivers in the main categories.
The Categories are :
- Micro Max for 8 years to 12 years old.
An exciting class to watch. With their 10 Horsepower engines, the racing is very close
and furious. They will reach speeds of 70km/h on the main straight.
- Junior Max for 13 years to 17 years old
The most exciting class to watch. Their 20 Horsepower engines reach more than 100km/h
on the main straight. With a low weight of min 145 kg, the kart goes from 0 to Top Speed in
less than 4 seconds. Very competitive Drivers in the field and chassis set-up is crucial for
being at the sharp end of the grip. Watch out what’s happening at Turn 1 after race starts.
- Senior Max,18 years plus
Close racing with several Formula BMW drivers to look out for. Senior Max engines have
30 Horsepower and although having more weight, lap times are as fast as the Juniors.
- Support Races
Masters (above 32 years old) with Senior Max engines and DD2 (Gearbox engines).
This year’s Malaysia and Asia Championship features 2 ISKL students. Calvin Seibl (Grade 9) in the Juniors with Kart Number 3
and in the Micro Max, Brendan Seibl (Grade 6) in Kart Number 7.
Both are in the running for the winning the 2010 Championship in their respective class after having changed
teams at the end of 2009.After Round 1,Brendan is in 3rd place of the Micro Max Championship standings,
Calvin is in 4th place of the Junior Championship.
Their target for Round 2 is to be in the TOP 3 and if the Kart has the pace, aim for a Race Win.
Go and enjoy an exciting day at the Races. Don’t hesitate to visit Calvin or Brendan in the paddock.
They are in the KRS team tent and will be happy to let ISKL parents/students have a look at
