Elementary School Highlights

 A Word from the Principal
As the year winds down, exciting events are happening all over the campus. Students are completing end-of-year assessments and portfolios and they are making and sharing their plans for the break. With the excitement of the school year ending and impending moves or other changes in our lives, please remember the value of a good night’s sleep to keep our children healthy and well prepared for school.

Night of the Notables
Last Thursday evening the grade five students demonstrated with energy, confidence and conviction what they learned during a unit focused on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.  They shared the information through a riveting collage of song and drama depicting moments, movements and people from all across the world. After the performance, all attendees were invited to view student displays about “notable” people who have made a difference in the lives of others and changed the course of history.  The evening culminated in everyone partaking of enjoyable delicacies from all over the world, hosted by the wonderful grade five parents. A true team effort that “Made a Difference”!  Well done, students and teachers!

In-service Day - May 10
There is no school for students on Monday, May 10th.  During the in-service day, Pete Bowers, an expert in Word Study and Real Spelling, will work with teachers from both campuses. The teachers will have the opportunity to review current practices, learn new strategies and develop materials for teaching students all about words.

Is this type of professional development necessary for teachers?  Yes!  Like other professionals, teachers continue to learn and grow throughout their careers.  Teachers are by nature lifelong learners and the research on how children learn continues to grow.  It is important to ensure we continue to use best practice to address their needs.  It will be a full day for all and, when your child returns to school on Tuesday, his/her teacher will be back in the classroom reenergized with some new ideas to enhance her/his learning.

Music Concert
On May 6, the Band,Choir, Gamelan and Recorder Clubs treated families to their End of Year Concert.   It was a great experience for all who were fortunate enough to be there.  Appreciation goes out to our music teachers Annette Bashir, Suzanne Van Dort and Jason Kennedy for helping students to develop their musical talents!  Students thanks for the work you did and for a great performance.

Walk For Children: One Malaysia - International Club Needs Your Help to Support Children!
The ISKL International Club is raising funds for disadvantaged youth of “Shelter Malaysia” to contribute towards their education and rehabilitation. The club is inviting local and international schools to participate in a walkathon at Lake Gardens (same location as Terry Fox Run), to support the theme of “One Malaysia” and raise funds and awareness for the children of “Shelter Malaysia”.This is a family affair and we encourage you to come and support this worthwhile event.  Free buses are available from the Ampang Campus and the walkathon will start at 9:00 a.m.  There will be food, entertainment by school bands and local artist, Caprice, as well as a bazaar.  If you would like to participate and you did not receive a registration form, please call the school at 4104-3000.

If you or your company can contribute funds to support the event please contact us.  Keep an eye out for May 22, and tell your friends!
